Best/Worst Non-Indy Movies?

Title says it all.
I have too many favorites to count (among them Star Wars, Coraline and Get Smart), but probably the worst movie I've seen was Knowing. Sure, it freaked me out, but the plot was completely messed up, not to mention the movie's complete scientific failure. (We will NOT be exterminated just because the Sun throws a hissy fit!)

Well...I don't exactly understand how you can ruin something that's crappy enough as it is, so let me explain.

At the end of Knowing, there's this huge solar flare/coronal mass ejection or something that was *supposedly* undetected until it actually happened. And the flare happened in 2009, so we would have been able to detect that. Instead, everyone dies in a blaze of fire as the ozone layer is burned away. (And I don't think that would happen, either.)

HA! That made me laugh. Knowing is up there on the list of Worst Non-Indy films. Some of my recent favorites are Moon, Inglourious Basterds, District 9, Up, and Star Trek.

And, just like I said, I don't understand how you can spoil something that's crappy enough as it is.

It's hard to believe that Knowing came from the same guy that did Dark City. And Dark City was a good movie! Heck even The Matrix borrowed from Dark City (the whole idea of the world around you is actually fake, or manufactured)

I had no idea the director of Knowing was the same as Dark City! That means he also directed The Crow. I love those 2 movies. I'm glad I didn't know that when Knowing came out, then I would've wasted my money to see it.

But you only have like 15 minutes, from detection to it hitting you in the gonads. These things don't stop on their way to grab a burger, you know. Solar Flares of this sort are not known to my knowledge, certainly not on the Sun (for obvious reasons) but I think the idea is clever, it's a theory, like most things we pretend to know about space are, like Black holes, for instance.

Since we are already in spoiler territory and no one cares, I' spoil some more, what Knowing does better then most recent "End of the world" films is that the world actually ends! There is no stupid last minute save which makes no sense.

The acting was good, but the plot was Twilight-worthy. (And that really isn't a compliment.)
Of the movies I haven't seen...Angels and Demons, District 9, Food Inc and G-Force seem interesting to me. I will *probably* watch New Moon when it comes out, but only to see how those brainless Twihards react when EDDDIEEE CULLLLL3N!!!1!!!!111!!!!! steps onto the screen.

ha! well said

i agree about knowing, it was pretty freaky, but the ending was uber WTF??? perhaps it would have been more appropriate if the ending cataclysmic event was knowing being released to theaters?

this thread has become the official 'bash knowing' party, allow me to get it back on track:

now i'm going to assume best/worst means IMO:

best: Vertigo, Goldeneye, Casino Royale, origonal star wars triology
Worst: Knowing (no competition), never say never again, torque

it's very hard to think about least favorites, expecially after you tried so hard to forget them

i didn't think about it that way, you're right, i havn't seen that happen very often (seen most of the humans get killed out in terminator and zombie films, but never something of this magnitude)

do you think that 2012 will have a 'last minute save'? i say yes

Ah Knowing,Not the worst that i have seen but it is defiantly one of them

My best friend, Robyn has that and we watched it one time at a sleepover,

well, all i can say was, it sucked, badly,

It was far too cheesy in a way, the idea of the world gong to end is an overused idea, not to mention that it is totally improbable,I took physics and Chemistry at school and i know for a fact that, that just will not happen,

It freaked me out when the kid saw that deer on fire (or something like that) and when those creepy guys where whispering things into the kids ears.

As a joke, every time Robyn and I have a sleepover, we watch that movie, just so we can slag it off and make fun of it.

That would be scientific breakthrough right there

I HATE HATE HATE TWILIGHT!! i was forced to watch it at the last week before the summer vacation last year, luckily i only had to watch half of it because the period ended before the movie, and the next day my mother had a concert booked all the way in Langholm so instead of going to school i was travelling instead, meaning that I didn't have to watch the rest, THANK GOD!

Now for the best movie(s)

The others
The Lovely Bones
Broke back Mountain
Changeling
Stand by me
The Time machine
Coraline
Happy Feet
Final Fantasy
Dr Zhivago
the curious case of Benjamin button
Aurore
Robin Hood
and Valkyrie

I have Far to many favorites to name but those are a few of them

Best: Jurassic Park- I have long thought of Jurassic Park as the perfect movie. The fact that such an awesome idea(putting dinosaurs on a theme park) is enough alone to consider it the best movie, but then there's the explination of how that seems totally plausible. And best of all, the execution. The dinosaurs look amazing and frightening, and you can really, and I mean really connect with the characters.

Worst: Batman and Robin- WAY too silly to be batman.
