Short Round in Indy 5, Who's with me?

I've no interest in seeing Shorty again. It would just bog the movie down: Indy doesn't have to meet up with every single person he's ever met- it's tiring backstory we don't need.
Did you see Lethal Weapon 4? Where every incidental character to ever feature in any of the films made it onto the poster? Tiring old rubbish: no thanks.
Nope i haven't seen Weapon 4.

I'm open to bringing back Shorty but it shouldn't be just for the sake of having him back. If the movie is set in China then I can see a reason for him tagging along again. I actually would rather a different actor play the adult version of him. I think a good premise would Indy being summoned to find some famous Macguffin with ancient Chinese origins. Somewhere along the line, Indy and Shortround became estranged. Indy finds Shorty again this time as a successful young professor of archaeology himself with expertise in ancient Chinese artifacts and he's also fluent in many of the dialects. Because of the estrangment, it takes some effort for Indy to get Shorty to tag along but he eventually does. Mutt comes along too which creates some "sibling rivalry" that puts Indy in the middle of it. I might watch something like that.

It would be nice if Indy went to Short Round to ask him did he know anything about this particular artifact. He would not have to be with Indy all the time just when Indy needed his help.

If I were a betting man; I'd bet that if Shortie were in the next installment, he'd being wearing his NY hat!
You just know they would be that dumb to do that.

Well of course they would. It's like Indy's hat. He got it from his inspiration.;)

I have no problems with Shorty getting a prominent mention (after all, one would like to think the character didn't die shortly after the events of TOD), but I'd rather his moment in the sun be his part in TOD. He doesn't need to be part of an Indy V story... and as others have mentioned, his inclusion would risk cluttering the movie with unnecessary character expositional baggage.

The way I see it, if you're gonna bring Shortround back then bring him back in a big way. One of the reasons Henry Jones Sr was written out of KOTCS (other than Connery declining) was because his scene was just a brief cameo where he meets with Indy before he goes on his adventure. For some fans, that may have been fine but most others would want to see more of him in the movie. For me, I'd rather Shortie be very much in the movie or not at all.

The Invisble Hand can't tell asian people apart!

Where are they now? Whatever happened to the stars of yesteryear?

Jonathan Ke Quan aka 'Short Round'

One of the cutest movie kids ever, Quan played Indiana Jones' underage sidekick Short Round in Temple Of Doom, then went on to find Goonies infamy as pint-sized inventor Data. Now 38 years old – how old does that make you feel? – he works as a stunt coordinator, doing all manner of daring on movies like X-Men. He considers Jackie Chan a personal hero - what no love for Dr. Jones?

I?d like to see Shorty come back along with Willie who took him in after TOD. Willie took Shorty back to the States and raised him in Vegas where she worked as a singer at a Casino. Later, they moved to Cuba where Short runs a Casino of his own in Havana and he takes care of Willie who sings at his night club. Indy and Mutt have to go into Cuba after the Communist revolution to re-rescue some of the artifacts that he has rescued in the past, that were on lone to a Havana museum and are in danger of being lost to Castro?s new regime. Shorty who is well connected with the Mob, helps Indy get in and out of the country an he and Willie escape with him, just before the Bay of Pigs. This all happens after Marion is killed by Russians(maybe Spalco's twin sister) who were after Indy for basically killing Spalco and making them look bad. Indy looses his eye trying to save Marion and has to live with his lost eye as a reminder of her death. Mutt is over come by vengeance and will stop at nothing to get the Russians(Spalco's twin) who killed his mother, giving him motivation for a movie of his own. Willie helps Indy Indy recover from his wounds, both physical and emotional and she, Shorty and Indy go back to the states for a quiet life, while Mutt is off to find justice for his mother (and track down the evil twin).

But then again, I really haven?t given this much thought! ;)

So your serious about Spalko's twin sister. That's REALLY pushing the limits of goofiness. Other than that your story is quite good. I don't think it would work as a big Extravegent finale to end the series, but as a sequal to LC it would work pretty well.

I thought so too when I read this a few days ago!:

Psychically linked twin sisters who as children abandoned unique identities and lived together and separate as Irina Spalko reaping the benefits of two people acumulating knowledge and acolades that only a person in two places at once could.

Almost sounds as bad as some middle aged dwarf prostitute passing herself off as a child!

I don't know about Spalko's Twin, but as I posted on another thread, I heard that Cate Blanchett is in talks to come back for the next Indy movie, and that might be one way for her to do so. I think that would be better than bringing Spalco back for where ever the hell she went. Ithink my story would work just as well with a new villain.

I wouldn't mind a cameo of some sort.

I second a I] small [/I]cameo..but not for Shorty.

Sallah woud be a welcome return but Shorty holds no appeal to me at all..now he's grown up he has probably lost any of the appeal he may have had yesteryear and he wasn't the best actor.

I'd accept a brief explanation of Shorty's whereabouts worked into a conversation perhaps.

Only die hard fans would recognise him and I guess the producers would not chance the 5th Indy outing with him in a major role after the last film got mixed reviews.

We have had the nostalgia with Marion and the ark in the Area 51 crate, so let's not be predictable and too cheesey going down that route again.

To be honest, just give us a great but original Indy adventure to end the series or just call it a day.

NO REBOOT!!!!(n)
