Indiana Jones-like series

I have a series that was inspired by my two biggest influences when I was a kid, Indiana Jones and Star Wars. It's called Relic Worlds, and it's about an anthropologist searching for powerful artifacts in the ancient ruins of distant planets. It's sort of like an Indiana Jones in space sort of storyline, if you will. :hat: So if you'd like to take a look, you can see it at:

http://www.relicworlds.com

The short stories are all free, and novels are on their way. Hope you all enjoy it! :)

Blast it! I had a concept I was working on similar to that. Beaten to the punch once again!

Seriously, though, this is a great concept, and I'm amazed nobody's really done it until now. I'll be glad to look at these things. :hat:

I know what you mean. :) I've done that before, where I started something, then found someone else did it first. Actually, I've been trying to do this for years. I first did it as a comic book series, then moved to this because I write much faster than I draw.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the series. And in my opinion, there's always room for more Indy-like stuff!

It's a pretty obvious concept but I imagine one of the reasons it hasn't been done as it difficult to transfer 'Indiana Jones' like concept into the future space, or anywhere, as Indy is set in specific timeframe. Indy wouldn't work in the 1800 or 1980's or 2000 so why in future?

Wearing a fedora in space doesn't necessarily make in "Indy-like" however I like thevway you have dealt with it.

Lancaster James is the renowned explorer and anthropologist who scours the galaxy in search of alien civilizations that have disappeared.* With the help of his trusted partner Little Jack, he probes ancient ruins on distant planets in search for invaluable relics that give him clues to some of the greatest mysteries in the universe.

- It's a nice side step. So will look forward to reading them.

Comic? Do tell more...

Well, I use the login name Lancaster James, but I actually play Little Jack in videos and pictures.

I'll actually be putting up an updated Pick Your Path video tomorrow. It'll be close to this one, but a little different, and with the updated links. (The third one also comes out tomorrow.)

As for the comic book, I tried to have it all be comic book/graphic novel related, but I was very slow. I'll still be releasing the one issue I really did at the beginning of next month. It'll be on the website and on Drivethru Comics. It's actually done already, but I'm trying to keep everything on a schedule of once every two weeks, and in order so it all makes at least some form of sense. :)

Thanks, everyone! Hope you enjoy it. And if you have ideas on where you'd like to see the series go and don't mind saying them, let me know. I'd love to hear it!

That sounds like a great idea! I'll put together a preview page and post it in the next couple days. For now, I just came out with a few choose your own adventure books that I'm going to post up.

Hope you like 'em! :)

I just tried to put up a preview, and discovered that I can't attach pictures here. :( Actually, I understand why. They don't want viruses or porn images or whatever getting up here, so they have to keep control on that. However, for me, it means that I have to have the comic book up and online in order to link it here, so we'll have to wait. However, when it comes out, I'll put up a preview, which should be near the beginning of May.

For now, there are a bunch of short stories and now some Pick Your Path adventures on the website.

Hope you enjoy! :)

This is an admirable piece of work, but this single thread should be enough to showcase it. Let's stick to it. Thank you.

Relic Worlds comic book issue

Hey everyone!

Several of you asked about a comic book version of my Relic Worlds series. I have a comic book done and posted on Drivethru Comics. It's available completely for free. (It's intended to be like the short stories, giving a taste and introduction to the overall stories.) I might do more comic books for the series in the future if there's enough interest, but for now, this will be a good introduction and a good test to see how it does.

The comic book is at:

http://comics.drivethrustuff.com/product/114411/Relic-Worlds:-The-Constellation-Crest

Enjoy!

P.S. At this very moment, my 30 year old girlfriend is seeing 'Star Wars' for the first time. She had never seen it before. :gun:

Nice idea, very derivative.

Star Wars does even hit my wife radar. So, well done!

Dime Store Chapters

I'm putting together the first novel for Relic Worlds. The whole thing is going to take close to a year, but in the meantime, I'm releasing each chapter as I finish it and calling them "dime store chapters." The reason I'm calling them that is because each one past the first is going to cost a dime. Chapter 1 is available for free to give readers a sense of what the story is going to be like. I just put it up, and it's at:

Relic Worlds Serial

I've been continuing on with the Relic Worlds novel, releasing it as a serial. I found that the best way to do it is to make it available on Drivethru Fiction, and simply to add to it. One chapter is added each month. The first two are available for free so everyone can see what the story is like. The rest is available for 99 cents. (That's for the whole series, not for each chapter.) It's at:

http://www.drivethrufiction.com/pro...nd-the-Search-for-the-Promised-World---Serial

Of course, the whole series is still at:

www.relicworlds.com

For some of you, this is a re-post. I had started a new thread with this topic thinking this older one was gone. (It didn't come up when I did a search.) Stoo was kind enough to show me where the original link was, so I'm continuing this thread and abandoning the new one.

Anyway, the first major novel for this series has come out. It's on Amazon, and at the website: www.relicworlds.com

The novel is called Lancaster James and the Search for the Promised World.

Enjoy!

I've read the opening, and as expected, it riffs on the classic Raiders opening of "hero going into lost temple of some sort and deals with traps". But you deserve credit for making it feel a little more special, thanks to the science-fiction elements giving it a whole new spin and allowing you the freedom to be more inventive and high-tech with the nature of the traps.

If you'd like, I can keep providing feedback as I go on this thread, but if you want me to instead PM you with such, so that other Raveners won't potentially be spoiled by my reactions, that's fine too.

And I do recommend you other folks give this a look. Even if you gotta just download the free sample. It's very good. (y)

Hey KongisKing!

I'm SO sorry it took me so long to reply. I meant to get back to you MUCH sooner, but the email reminder got lost in a bunch of stuff that's going on at the moment.

Anyway, yes, I'd love for you to give your thoughts. Positive and negative are always helpful; positive for obvious reasons, negative because it helps me improve the series, which will be continuing on. So definitely feel free to put them up here or PM me, or whatever. You can also contact me on Facebook under Jeff McArthur, and the Relic Worlds series has a group and fan page.

Thanks, man, and sorry again for taking so long to respond.

No worries, sir. I've admittedly not had much free time to read past the first three chapters or so. I'll get back into it, and then get back to you. :hat:
