Blu-Ray on the bounce at last..?

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/38019

Blu-ray will overtake standard DVDs as the primary form of content software within the next four years, accounting for 61% of the U.S. DVDs sold by 2012, U.K.-based consultant Futuresource says. Such growth will easily outpace that in western Europe, where Blu-ray will account for between 39% and 50% of DVD sales by 2012, according to the report.

I was really hoping they would put a digital copy with the Blu Ray DK so I wouldn't have to double dip.....that sucks.

The Coppola Restorations Reviewed...

Nice boost in clarity. To be honest, I didn't know such bland colors -- such as brown -- could look so good. When it comes to this type of er, hue, Blu-ray is a testament to what restorations can really look like. Yes, this is one old trilogy that looks great in HD. I figured there would be tons of grain, but was shocked to see very little, especially during those outdoor fiestas; or whatever they call them.

When it comes to the extras, both the Blu-ray and DVD set come with so many fixings (in terms of length), that one might find themselves bored with the franchise once through with them all. I don't know about you, but it's hard to listen to Coppola talk for ten hours.

It's hard to overstate the painstaking work that has gone into this restoration, complicated by the fact that the original negative has been damaged over time thanks to the many prints that have been struck from it. Combine that with the style of cinematographer Gordon Willis -- who created an astonishing range of black levels contrasted with blown out whites -- and you have a pretty challenging restoration project on your hands. As one film historian puts it in the special features, "There is only one way to print The Godfather, and it is dark." But somehow, the technical wizards have worked their magic here and recreated a beautiful, clear picture. Even Coppola himself admits that he's forgotten how the films looked when they first came out. This is as close as they have ever been. And while there is still some color degradation and the occasional scratch or speck in the print, that's to be expected of a film of this age. The third film, being much more recent, looks as if it could have been made yesterday. In short, seeing these films on Blu-ray is a revelation and should be required viewing for anyone with even a passing interest in film scholarship.

So are you picking up the Blu-Ray Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the Man?

I don't plan to. I've no aversion to seeing Skull again, but buying it? No. They'll probably have the full quadrilogy out soon enough on Blu-ray anyway...
