Wested 'Hero' Jacket Collar/Care Questions w/ Photos

Hi there everyone!

So, back in December, I became the proud owner a Wested 'Hero' Indy jacket. This was an absolute thrill for me! Being an official owner of such a quality piece of memorabilia/clothing/movie history is a great feeling!

After several months of daily wear, and sleeping in it a few times, this jacket has really taken on its own unique shape, conforming to my own shape and beginning to wear nicely in a few areas. However, there is but one concern that I have. The collar, being that this is the more screen accurate 'Hero' version of the jacket, is rather beefy. This isn't a problem for me, as I like a nice big collar, but it seems that it's still a bit stiff. I know it takes time to break in quality leather, but I would expected it to lay a little flatter by now. Has anyone else gotten the 'Hero' and noticed the same thing?

I've yet to treat it with anything be it water-proofing or moisturiser, and was wondering if that will soften up the collar a little. I'd also like to hear what you guys prefer to treat your jackets. Keep in mind, this is the lambskin version.

Thanks in advance!

-Colt

You need to get down to a tanning boutique and roll in mud to complete the look...if you REALLY want to be Indy.

It's a nice jacket and it looks like it fits well. One question, did you know it was going to have that 'crocodile' skin pattern when you ordered it? It's just that I've never seen that on a Wested jacket.

When I ordered my jacket, there were three options for the leather. There was "Crispe" Lamb, "Shrunken" Lamb, and the standard finish Lamb. When looking through the choices, and seeing the "Shrunken" Lamb being out of stock, I opted for the "Crispe" one. It looked a little less crocodile-like in the photos on the website. Now, when I first saw it, I was a little taken aback, but it's grown on me. I think that it's also going to soften in appearance with age.

This is what the "Crispe" looks like on the website.

As you can see, a little different. Taking into account that samples vary from the actual product, I'm happy with it. It's a wonderful jacket.

Yeah, that whole "tanning" thing just isn't my proverbial "scene". I will take the 'rolling in mud' note to heart though.

I see what you mean by the difference in the pics. Like you say, it will probably soften with time. Fedoraiders has the best way of distressing his jacket on Youtube. Search under "my methode of distressing raiders jacket". I haven't dared to do it myself, but I'm building up to it.

Ah yes, I've seen that video. A pretty straight forward way of getting the job done, if I do say so myself. Not sure if I'll do that just yet, but it's something to keep in mind.

I too, have the hero jacket in this particular hide. I have had mine for 9 months, now and have walked in four heavy rainstorms with it on. The collar in the beginning was very difficult to mold, resisting shape, but now it is soft and floppier than anything. I really like it.

Thanks a bunch for the feedback! It's good to hear that about the collar. Tell me, have you done anything with waterproofers or conditioners yet?

I'm so sorry for the delay in my response. I hardly check this fan form as I am a lot more active on club obi-wan, another Indy fan message board. In regards to your question, so far I have used both lexol and pecards leather dressing on the jacket. The lexol keeps it supple and the pecards preserves the strength of the leather while making it very waterproof.

Thanks for the reply
Don't worry about it being a little late, that's quite okay! I'm definitely going to look into those items as soon as I can. By the way, I'd just like to say that the jacket just keeps looking better and better.
