The Cinema of George Lucas by Marcus Hearn

A great, unique and extensively documented piece of work well worth a place on the upper bookshelves of any Indiana Jones / Star Wars / George Lucas fan!

The book, by Marcus Hearn and with a foreword from Ron Howard (played a role in Lucas' American Graffiti) came out January 2005 - it's a shame I didn't ask it for my birthday in June, but after re-exams I finally went out and bought it !

It's now one of my proudest possesions and will take me some days to read intensively but I found it well worthwile: for most of Lucas' films, the author gives up the entire shooting schedule, there's also a complete double-page filled with the atop-of-the-train chase sequence from the beginning of TLC.

I can't believe there haven't been any posts about this unequalled compendium of Lucas' filmwork and professional achievements yet...

Anyone else a proud possesor of this work - care to share your "wows", cheers and amazements ? :p

I saw that book in Barnes and Noble a couple of months ago and casually flipped through it. It has some interesting facts and some great pictures as well. I haven't bought it (I already have some big books like that, mostly 007 ones ;) ) but I may in the future if I have some available room and cash. It's certainly worth looking through, especially if you're an Indiana Jones or Star Wars fan.

Got a used copy shipped for $7, nothing yet I didn't know. Complete Making of Indiana Jones is all you need. No shooting schedules for Indy films, just YIJC, which I'll probably scan.

Thanks for the update on that one.

Should I bother with either of these?
The Creative Impulse (1997)

I have this one and it's pretty good. Though, since you're already well read on Lucas, it might not give you anything new. It runs through Lucas' career accompanied by some great photos, there's a run down of all the episodes of YIJC with some trivia, but not much, and ends with a look at the incredible Skywalker Ranch.

For Indy, as you said, you can't beat The Complete Making of... . (I also have the equivalent Star Wars volume).

This is a fantastic book as a comprehensive veiw of Lucas work and the context in which it sits. I would recommend it for any collection.

Is there enough Indy content in these books for inclusion in the Literature section?

Industrial Light & Magic: Into the Digital Realm (1996)

George Lucas: The Creative Impulse, 1992, revised in 1997. Covers below:

The cinema of George Lucas is a comprehensive guide to his works, including IJ and YIJC and therefore should be included. The other books, not so much but I feel enough to be included.
