The dream team ? the guys who made (deep breath) Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, The King Of Comedy, New York, New York, Cape Fear, Goodfellas and Casino together ? haven?t worked together since 1995. Since then, there have been flirtations ? most notably on The Winter Of Frankie Machine (which De Niro is now set to make with Michael Mann) ? but nothing concrete.

But now, the duo look set to work together again on the Paramount crime flick, I Heard You Paint Houses.

The movie will be based on a book by Charles Brandt, a writer who befriended an Irish hitman called Frank ?The Irishman? Sheeran (told you he was Irish) before he died in 2004. Sheeran confessed a number of killings to Brandt including, so it?s claimed, the dismemberment of the famous missing Teamster boss, Jimmy Hoffa.

It?s early days yet ? De Niro has signed on as Sheeran, but Scorsese has just brought on Steven Zaillian to adapt the book into a screenplay. So it could be a couple of years before anything happens with this ? but we?re hopeful.

Scorsese has, of course, forged a fruitful working relationship with Leonardo DiCaprio over the last few years (four movies and counting!), but the sparks he creates in tandem with De Niro are special. They?re more than special ? they?re cinema history, and we can?t wait to see those sparks fly again.

Let's keep this thread on ice. It may fall...but will rise again...

Good to hear! After the alleged travesty that was Righteous Kill, De Niro needs something to keep him in good light (I wish the same for Pacino!).

But Scorcese! Dosn't he have enough on his plate? Whatever happened to The Departed sequel/prequel? This guy is getting to be just as busy as Spielberg!

It's terrific news, indeed. As much as I love De Niro, the last few years have been indefensible. We want our old Bob back!

As for Scorsese: he's just about finishing up Shutter Island, but he may make another movie before the pair reunite...

Could be a long wait...

Agreed! Where did you go Bob? We miss the guy who played Johnny Boy, Vito Corleone, Michael, Travis Bickle, Jake La Motta, Jimmy Conway, Max Cady, Neil McCauley, Ace Rothstein, and Sam!

Scorsese Interim Update...

Daniel Day-Lewis and Benicio del Toro have just signed on to star in Silence, the next film from Martin Scorsese.

Based on the novel by Shusako Endo, Silence will tell the story of two Jesuit priests who travel to Japan in the 17th century to find their mentor and spread the word of God.

Scorsese has been angling to adapt the Endo novel for over a decade, and now he’s getting his wish, with filming likely to start in New Zealand later this year.

Two Films?

http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/articl...ng-about-the-irishman-is-two-movies-plus-8-12

I don't ask the question in the headline wondering if Robert De Niro is crazy when he talks about what he and Martin Scorsese have envisioned for the previously announced The Irishman based on Charles Brandt's 2004 book "I Heard You Paint Houses". I ask because I am hoping someone can make sense of what he's trying to put together with scripts by Steve Zaillan and Eric Roth combining a mob drama with an autobiographical story reminiscent of Federico Fellini's La Dolce Vita and 8 1/2.

In The Irishman De Niro would play Frank "the Irishman" Sheeran, who is reputed to have carried out more than 25 mob murders.

Scorsese, DeNiro, and now... Pesci? Pacino? Why don't we just throw Harvey Keitel in there while we're at it... (y)

http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/09/13...ert-de-niro-in-martin-scorseses-the-irishman/

n smaller groups, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, Robert De Niro, and director Martin Scorsese have together made some of the best crime films of all time such as Goodfellas, The Godfather Part II, Heat, Raging Bull, Mean Streets and Casino. Well, if the rumors are true, these four Oscar winners might soon be teaming up for one giant mob movie.

Pacino and Pesci are reportedly ?circling? a film that De Niro and Scorsese have been preparing for several years called The Irishman.

The Irishman, based on the book I Heard You Paint Houses by Charles Brandt, is about mob hitman Frank ?The Irishman? Sheeran who claims to have killed Jimmy Hoffa and many others. Earlier this year, De Niro spoke at the Tribeca Film Festvial about an ambitious idea he and Scorsese had to make the film once they had the time.

Great news - De Niro/Scorsese are an excellent combination for film lovers, having been involved in some of the best American films of the past 40 years, i.e. Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, King of Comedy, Cape Fear, Goodfellas (of course!), & Casino.

Also, not only are these films great in and of themselves, but in some cases they truly represent the decade they came out in to some extent:

1970's

Mean Street
Taxi Driver

These two films are some of the best urban crime dramas to ever come out of the '70's.

1990's

Goodfellas
Casino

The high production values, advanced editing techniques (quick cuts, etc.), and epic scope were all seen in other '90's films, but Goodfellas especially set the bar for the rest of the decade when it came out in '90.

Keitel in? Pacino and Pesci confirmed...

http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/article/keitel-joins-scorsese-dream-line-up-in-the-irishman

After months of speculation, Robert De Niro has confirmed the principal players for what can only be considered a dream line-up for Scorsese fans. De Niro will be joined by Al Pacino, Joe Pesci and Harvey Keitel in The Irishman, with Steve Zaillian (Schindler's List, American Gangster) penning the script based on the novel "I Heard You Paint Houses."
