Dark of the Sun

Anyone yearning for a great action/adventure flick? Try "Dark of the Sun" starring hard-boiled, Rod Taylor and NFL football super-star, Jim Brown. Although it's been watered-down a bit by today's standards, this film was very violent for its time and eventually became banned for a number of years.

The musical score by Jacques Loussier is fantastic (Q.Tarantino even used several pieces in his recent, "Inglourious Basterds"). If the clips below do not inspire you to watch it, then you can take "Toy Story", Marvel & DC super-hero films, "Ghostbusters", Sonic the Hedgehog & Wacko Jacko love and shove them right up your flaring A-holes!:p:whip:

Wilbur Smith! I knew the title was familiar. Started reading his novels when I was at school: adventure tales with a big dose of sex and violence!

Love the music and the title sequence. Remember Jim Brown from 100 Rifles (remember Raquel from that film even more clearly ;) ).

Thanks for linking to this thread, Stoo! I missed it on its initial posting.

The trailer and the credit sequence reminds me a lot of The Professionals with Lee Marvin. Which isn't really surprising considering they came out at approximately the same time. I'll definitely be seeing this as soon as I finish the book.

Speaking of the book, I'm only about thirty pages in, but Jim Brown isn't quite who I pictured based on the description. Michael Clarke Duncan is who I thought of, but he might be physically too slow for an action-adventure movie. Perhaps Ving Rhames should be considered if a remake were to ever be contemplated.

The book and movie, however, deserve extra points for daring to use sub-Saharan Africa as the backdrop of its story. Aside from rarities like Blood Diamond, modern interpreters of the action-adventure genre are deathly afraid of venturing into the continent. This is despite the fact that the continent is rife with story material.
