Would you support a Bond-style re-cast of Indy after Kingdom?

Personally, I thought Daniel Craig was pretty amazng as Bond. It can be done, but for Jones (who is so much more personable than Bond) that would be tough.

I really like Kingsley's idea to cast a young guy to play Jones in his 20's.

Timothy Dalton as the best of the Bonds and the only one actually worth the badge of Ian Fleming's Bond was the sole exception to the rule - but that's because... he is Timothy Dalton! All the others, particularly Reeve and Keaton, are and will remain the true personifications of the characters. As will Ford as Henry Jones Jr.

And, of course, unless Kingdom loses money (hah!), then the restart of the franchise as an updated Teendiot Jones idea will happen, unfortunately. It's dreadful, it's imbecilic and it's inevitable. Hopefully it will be done as a TV series, again, so it's easy to ignore - again.

It depends on how it's treated... probably money will be the main factor for such a revisiting of the franchise, but it doesn't mean they can't make a respectable approach to the character in his youth.

Who, if anyone do you/we feel may be fit to play Indy at around 22yrs Old?
As for who could do it, I'm not sure, but I'd consider casting an actor in his late 20's for the role. The reason I say this, is because I would suspect Indy even at that age, Indy would look a bit older than your typical 22 year old.

I'll keep my eyes open for someone that jumps out at as a good candidate!

Yes...But you can just push the series back...

(Didn't ToD come before Raiders?...)

So... why can't they just say..."Oh, this one takes place just after ToD..."It would really work...

But, I would only see it if they found someone that was HF's twin...
And not Armstrong...

I would support a recast. It either needs to be a younger actor in adventures between YIJC and TOD or an older actor (Dennis Quaid [please see the movie "Flight of the Phoenix"...clips on the web]) playing Indy in the 1940's to fill in what seems like the Indy equivalent of the clone wars mention in the first Star Wars.

If they cast the right guy, and as much as I actually DO think Quaid could do it and do it really really well, it should probably be a newly discovered actor that would really try to honor Harrison's performance. No, not impersonate Harrison, but really try to honor it.

I would like to see Harrison be sort of a character director for who would take over. Don't you think that would sort of soften the blow and feel like a real passing of the torch. Harrison is sort of the character keeper for Indy. He knows what Indy would do in any situation. So if they go a newly discovered actor, had Harrison on the sidelines with notes for the actor (and I think Harrison's involvement in that way would actually keep Spielberg involved, too), I think we would see a transition that surpasses the Bond franchise by a mile!

Indy deserves more than to just fade from relevance and existence.

that would be nice

i think that if they recast for indy 5 (which they wont) then they should have harrison in the min adventure at the start of all the films and then have the film go back in time to a younger indy (the recast) and have the main adventure with that actor.

I still say let the series end with Ford, no reboots and recasts! But, if they do go ahead and decide to make a fresh start, my vote would be for Gerard Butler! He's the only actor right now that I've seen enough of, that has the characteristics needed for the role. He's got the action hero side down pat, just see 300, Timeline, or Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life. He's got a good sense of humor ie. P.S. I Love You, he can tackle dramatic roles ie. Dear Frankie, and both guys and girls like him. In all those ways he's very Ford-like.

Bond can pull off an actor switch for two main reasons. First, they started the tradition relatively early in the series' history, and audiences quickly became used to the idea. Second, the character is an archetype that never really changes. Unlike the books, they never include anything so drastic that it will forever alter the movies that follow.

But with Indy, the same actor has simply been linked with the role for too long. And the character has never really taken on a life of its own outside the film series. The tv show has a cult following, but it didn't alter the public's view of Indiana Jones.

Spielberg and Lucas have always maintained that Ford is Indy, and I really can't see Spielberg agreeing to direct anyone else in the role. So even if Lucas wanted to reboot, most wouldn't accept it without at least Ford or Spielberg on board with him. The end result would likely come across as just another Indy imitator.

A 'rebooted' or Indy 'imitator' would be accepted by the general public, but not so much by us Indy fans who are very much hung up on things not changing because of our precious memories. For me anything with Mutt Jones won't cut the mustard, but a new, younger Indy such as Gerard Butler would work well I reckon and inject further life into future possible Indy movies. Sacrilege I know, but we will never know if we never go.

No, No and NO! Could you imagine the Raiders March playing while ANOTHER INDIANA JONES is kicking someone's ass, or using his whip to escape a situation?! I would puke! It would be a disgrace! Harrison Ford = Indiana Jones, it's as simple as that.

I SO support this idea.

I love Indy, love Ford as Indy. Raiders is the best movie ever made and is responsible for me getting into the creative field in which I currently work. It changed my life- for the better.

But the reality is, Indy needs to continue. And with the current keepers of the grail, it just isn't going to happen...at least not at the level of respect the franchise deserves. And darn it, the Indy universe and Indy character deserves the same longevity of Bond and Star Trek.

If the flick is cast well, we'll not only get used to the new Indy, but be happy- I feel. Because this young Indy will be able to be back in the 1930's and 1940's (does anyone REALLY like the 50's setting more?) and he'll be young enough to kick some ass and be the Indy we know and love. And hey, we get Marcus back as a character, we get Indy's dad back too!

I think Ford is past his prime for Indy and while we're at it, so is Lucas and so is Spielberg (much as I am a fan of his, it's clear he has moved on artistically and no longer feels the passion for the world of Indy).

Why NOT get an actor who is more aged to the part and why not get a creative time which- while perhaps answering to Lucas/Spielberg at an exec producer level- is hungry and fresh and passionate? As true Indy fans, to me it seems that that would be what we would feel pays the most respect to our beloved franchise. Not keeping a bunch of past their prime players on the field simply for the sake of nostalgia.

Spidey

ps. on a total tangent- has anyone noticed- and been annoyed like I have- that ALL of the Indy print materials that have been published since KOTCS hit refer to Indy as DR. HENRY JONES JR.?!? I mean, what the HELL is up with Lucas?!? First he changes the titles of the movies (at least Raiders) and now he's trying to get us to see the character name as HENRY JONES JR. vs. INDIANA? I think the man honestly has a true dislike for his fan base...like he resents and mocks us and feels we're all fools. And I've met the guy, he's a bit of a jerk, truth be told. So I could actually see this being the reason. But then again, maybe I'm reading too much into it. :) But still, am I the only one to notice this?

No recasting. Indy dies with Ford.

You want Indy to continue? I still don't know why there hasn't been a cartoon series yet. Indy is built perfectly for that stuff. Now that Star Wars is having a tv show why not Indy?

The big reason I'm against recasting is because no matter who they choose it won't be an Indy movie. I mean, many posters feel that KOTCS didn't feel like an Indy movie and that had Ford in it. Imagine one without him. :dead:

Besides Indy, I've always been a huge fan of the pulp hero The Green Hornet. So when i heard they were making a big budget Green Hornet film I was super excited. Than I found out Seth Rogen was playing him. Yes. Chubby, Stoner, Knocked up, Pineapple Express Seth Rogen. WTF? So now I'm waiting for everyone to see a dark gritty child hood hero of mine be degraded to a stupid comedy. The Green Hornet will now be seen as a joke.

Don't do that with Indiana Jones. I don't want to see Dane Cook wearing the fedora:p

And you think that without the leading/recurring star character of the franchise that it will still be at the level the others are?
I'm all for their being a new indy but people need to realise that it will not be the same. no one does indy like harrison ford.

My vote is for yes, but they _really_ would have to cast the role with careful thought. Not just find some kid like Hayden Christensen and expect him to fill the shoes of Indy.

It should happen and will happen. Just bet your bottom dollar on it.

It shouldn't happen but probably will. Lucas has bet your bottom dollar on it. Go ahead, keep encouraging him. When the series is in the eternal toilet, who's to blame?

Sorry but No, Ford is indy, if indy was timeless i think it would never be as good. the only way a re-cast of indy would work would be to take it back to the 1930's but then you'd be fighting the germans again and it'd feel very much the same.

Someone said that in 10 years time ford wont be doing Indy so it will all be dead and forgotten. Do you think Lucas and Speilberg and the rest of the crew are not going to age then? Ford, Lucas, Speilberg, Williams & Marshall are really the heart and soul of indiana jones films are are roughly the same age (ish), in 10-15 years time they will all probably be retired and so...if indy is recast and continued on...to me it just wont be the same.

Plus its Lucas' baby...whos to say he's gonna let anyone ever make a film of indy other than him.

Then theres always the fact of how long can the indy films resist the ever growing pressure to conform to the over CGI'd blockbusters.

Personally i think the indiana jones name should rest with Ford, Lucas and Speilberg when they retire.

We all loved the first 3 indy films, some loved the new one, me personally i think theres atleast another 1 great indy film to be done if Lucas can come up with an artifact to chase within a few years.
