The Incredible Hulk

Wow, I'm no fan of 2003's Hulk, but this is just amazing. Turns out the franchise (if you can even call it that after just 1 film) is already trying to start over and reinvent itself, following in the footsteps of Batman Begins and Casino Royale:

You know your movie sucked when you have to revamp the franchise after releasing it, when it's the only one out there. Nice work, you greedy comic-bastardizing jerks.

I never saw the original, but I heard it was awful. I have to say, we seem to be overloaded with Superhero movies. It doesn't seem like the genre was this popular after films like the original Superman came out or Batman in 1989. Sure, they got sequels, but I don't think a bunch of other superhero films started popping up. Off the top of my head, I can think of Spider-Man, Superman, Batman, Hulk, Hellboy, The Punisher, The Fantastic Four...I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting (X-Men, oops). The films usually do well, so that's why they keep making them, but still, I think I'd like a little break from superheroes for a while.

They've become nothing more than annual exhibits for CGI evolution. They're trite, worthless pictures and frankly I'm sick of them. Spiderman was awful and was the final nail in the coffin of Sam Raimi's directorial credibility. Superman was a farce, X-Men was pretentious, etc etc. Superheroes films needn't be so superficial! The only one I'm looking forward to any more is the new Batman. Aside from that, I'm simply not interested.

Yes, yes, yes! I also hate how we get the same "story" or plot in every one of them. Come on, we're smart enough to handle more complex stories and plots (a la Batman Begins). We can handle the darkness of creativity...we don't need the spotlight of condescension in storytelling.

Yeah, I probably won't end up seeing it. But speaking of Superheroes, on a sort of related note.

I bought this puzzle for one of my cousins. It had a bunch of superheroes on there, most of whom I had no idea who they were. He pointed to one asked who that was. I told him that I didn't know, but his dad said it was Iron Man. My cousin said "Oh, I know his song. Doo, doo, do, do, do..." I thought it was cute. I wouldn't have known Iron Man at three, but apparently this kid did.

There's an Iron Man movie coming out soon, starring Robert Downey Jr. So you'll know him well, if only through another poor superhero movie designed to capitalize on the comic frenzy.

Don't forget Catwoman, Daredevil, Elektra...a trio of classic crapshanks.

I don't know. I thought the trailer looked pretty sweet, and I hated the first Hulk.

But this one isn't really a relaunch and is still a sequel to the first. Avi Arad said it's basically "like how Aliens is still a sequel to Alien, but with a very different tone."

Iron Man looks pretty cool, too, and I like the Fantastic Four movies. It's nice to see some comic book films that just sort of have fun with themselves and not get so bogged down in seriousness that they just become unwatchable, like Spider-Man 3 and Batman Begins.

There's a trailer of the new movie:

IMO, this will suck hard!

Ed Norton is a good actor IMO. But, if you look at the trailer, it is pretty lackluster. The scenes with the Hulk fighting look cool... but every other scene looks boring. I imagine it will be less "over the top" then the last one but still only manage to be mediocre.

Do I hope I'm wrong?

Not really. I don't care. I'm not much of a Hulk fan. HAhha...

but it would be nice if it didn't suck so they won't look pitiful. I mean, basically rebooting the franchise but as a sequel with new actors... only for it to suck as bad as the first?

I must be one of the only people who liked the first one! I though Eric Bana was great, so was Nick Nolte, Jennifer Connely, Sam Elliot, and Josh Lucas! I liked the comic book style, the action, and the FX. I never got all the hate. So when I heard they were rebooting it I was disappointed to see Bana not return, but I've always been a big fan of Norton, so his casting made up for it. If anyone has seen American History X or Fight Club they'll know what I mean, when I say he's highly capable of displaying pure rage on screen convincingly.

Personally I think the trailer looks pretty cool! My only complaint is it seems to have a very similar story arc as the first film, especially evident when William Hurt says Banner's body belongs to the government. The whole discovery of his power, the relationship with Betty, the helicopter with her pulling away, and the big showdown with the enemy mutant in the end all look very similar to Ang Lee's Hulk. Hopefully it's completely different with a fresh spin!

I'm hoping for the best, but so far so good!

After watching the trailer this morning, this was my main concern as well. What dialogue we got from Norton and Hurt seemed like a rehash of the first movie's storyline. On the other hand, as far as I'm concerned it wouldn't take too much to make a film that was greatly superior to the first one. I'm still hopeful at this stage.

I actually thought the opposite way. I felt like the stuff without The Hulk looked more appealing. The CGI Hulk is something that's always bothered me. I don't think they've quite nailed it.

You are SO not alone! I consider Hulk to be the 2nd best superhero film in history behind Spidey 2. Honestly, Hulk is an incredibly touching, resonant "film" about irresponsible fathers and the terrible rage hiding within the Id inside us all. The visual effects were not THAT terrible, actually I thought they were pretty excellent! We're just not yet used to seeing a giant green man on screen yet...every effect needs a test run!

And i also consider Nolte's David Banner to be one of the most compelling and...well...human villains in cinematic history. Here is THE ultimate bad father, not Vader. A symbol of everything teenagers are utterly terrified of: having no choice or control over their lives and forever cursed with the mess left by our parent (in this case, a big green monster-of-a-mutation, making this all the more heartbreaking and poignant).

Hulk is a modern classic, a truly great psychological thriller with a heart, brains, lungs, the whole nine yards. The movie should have by all means gotten a Best Picture nomination, but didn't. People hated it just because it didn't have effects galore or the green guy bawling "Hulk SMASH!!!" And why the whining over spandex undies? Who wants to see the Hulk's hulk, anyway? NOT ME!!! Stop whining, critics, and give some respect to this unlikely, underrated and unique work of art!!!! :hat:

We believe you. Honest. What I'm guessing happened is that you hotlinked to those images from whatever sites you found them on. Since hotlinking uses the bandwidth of the server the image (or other content) originated from, some website owners don't take too kindly to it. Some servers are programmed to detect hotlinking and return different content than the content that was linked to. In the case of images, this is generally either a warning message or an outright hostile one. In your case, you snagged a message of the angry variety.

One way around this: download the image to your PC, then upload it to Image Shack, a free image hosting service. Then you can link to the image there without fear of getting some nasty insult instead of the picture you wanted.
