Correct!

I enjoyed New Jersey as a comic sidekick trying to fake his way through an adventure. But I have a major problem with the concept of his character.

He claims to be Indy's older brother in order to cash in on our hero's reputation. However, I never imagined Indy to have much of a reputation outside of his academic circles. Other archaeologists might know him, but I doubt the "monied rubes" (as Gilles put it) would have ever heard of Indiana Jones.

Sargasso Pirates takes place after Last Crusade, so maybe by then there's a bit of a following, but I don't really see Indy as a celebrity in his own time.

I suppose that "monied rubes" with university connections might have heard of Indiana without being familiar enough to recognize New Jersey as a con-artist.

Are there any other comments on New Jersey or Sargasso Pirates? I'll post question #4 tomorrow.

"Ward, don't you think you aer being a bit hard onthe beaver?"

AH yes, exactly, it is some stupid name I made up just like everything about Indiana Jones that is not in one of the three movies, or I will also include the young Indiana Jones tv show, but all these comic books etc, video games, and books are not Indy!

Ugh

I agree, perhaps a little less bluntly. The books and comics were written under license...not by the screenwriters. That Indiana Jones should evolve to where someone is mooching of his "reputation" is contrary to his style of covert archaeology.

Nads, was in Indiana Jones, The Dark Years comic book only published in Ghana, Africa. Nads was a shoe shine, who helped hid Indy from the evil Doctor Mod-a-Lot. But this comic book actually was never distributed since one issue would cost more than 99% of Ghana entire GNP.

I have to admit you have me on Testies, though!

If there's one thing I've learned here at the Raven, it's that everyone has their own opinion of who Indiana Jones is. Some can enjoy Indy's adventures in all their myriad forms. Others only like the movies. A few even limit their definition of Indy to Raiders only.

Lucasfilm has licensed various companies to produce Indy adventures in other media. We can start another thread to discuss our preferences, but suffice it to say that some of us enjoy Indy's adventures in comics, video games, novels, etc. If you don't that's fine, but this quiz thread is not meant for you.

If you want to participate, I welcome you. But there are too many good discussions here at the Raven that have been spoiled by childish comments that detract from rather than add to the conversation.

Thank you stoo,

I agree I thought that ToJ and myself were on to something here, and I hope that your difference of opinion did not ruin it

OK, back to the quiz.

Question #4:

Who did Indy take with him on adventures to Horror Island, the Silver Tower in Tibet, a mummy crypt in Cairo, and Howling Island?

Would that be me? Or the reader actually. I haven't read those books just yet, I'm still working on the other Indy books.

I actually think those were comics but someone please correct me if I'm wrong. I haven't read them so I'm afraid this answer is out of my range.

You're getting there. What I'm looking for is what part the reader plays. What is his (or her) relationship to Indy?

Edward's got it. These are "Find Your Fate" books. Strangely enough, the only books I've ever read that were written in second person.

Well Horror Island seems to be IJ and the Curse of Horror Island, the first in the series. IJ and the Giants of the Silver Tower is #3, IJ and the Cult of the Mummy's Crypt is #7, and IJ and the Ape Slaves of Howling Island is #15.

I haven't read all of them, though I do have them, but unless there are comics that are close then I'm still going with my answer. Now if one of you guys happens to be named Nads then I guess that'll work too! ;)

I'll admit I had to look the full titles up, but I did know where they were from.

You're Indy's cousin. I decided to go ahead and read the Mummy's Curse on the way to work today. Indy only said the relationship once so it took me awhile to find it. I'm only guessing it's the same in the other books as well.

Hooray for Edward the Head. He came up with the correct answer: "Indy's young cousin."

So Indy has a young cousin? We met his cousin Frank in The Young Indy Chronicles when they went to Mexico, but he's older. So where did this young cousin come from?

Actually I think they went with cousin because its not gender specific. The books are written in second person, so the reader is the main character. By saying cousin, you can be male or female.

Another interesting fact: These four "Find Your Fate" books were written by RL Stine, who is more famous for "Goosebumps" and a ton of other kids horror books. This was early in his career, before he was famous.
