Scriptwriter for Indy 5?

Well, its looking like there is very good chance Indy 5 gets made, with George Lucas already researching potential MacGuffins for the next film.

Assuming the film is set to get made, which scriptwriters would you like George/Steven to consider for Indy 5?

Do you want Larry Kasdan or David Koepp to return? Or how about up and coming writer Jonathan Nolan, who had great success with The Dark Knight and is writing the next Terminator film. Or Paul Haggis, who has a great resume in writing the latest two Bond films as well as other hit films.

I don't think Kasdan would come back and Koepp may not want to.

I like different writers for each film. Paul Haggis is good and I know SS like his work for Casino Royale.

Nolan wouldn't work i think. he's much more into psychological serious thriller stuff. Paul Haggis could work. he's got quite the resume. and he's got nothing on his plate right now. SIGN HIM UP. but you look at the writers for Temple of Doom and Last Crusade, they didnt' have the best resumes. Jeffrey Boam did LC then a couple Lethal Weapons and then pretty much nothing since. Willard Huyck did American Graffiti and pretty much nothing else.

Yeah, Jeffrey Boam died almost 9 years ago.

My guess is that Jeff Nathanson will assist again since he had worked with SS and seemed to work well with GL for KOTCS. They all have a history of working with people they are familiar with.

Last May, the vast majority of posters here decided to cheer the most imbecilic, derisory 'script' that Steven Spielberg has ever agreed to shoot - and now people actually care who 'writes' the next one? Really? Seriously? Huh?

They don't need a good scriptwriter. They don't need a decent screenplay. They just need you...

All of the movies have had their final drafts scripted by different people (but not always for like of trying). This should continue with an Indy5. I guess what I'm really trying to say is, let's give Koepp a break from ruining movies.

wtf, dude get over yourself. People are having a decent discussion and you come in here saying your usual BS. You didn't like KOTCS. That's fine! But we're not even talking about it.

I wouldn't count on any great genius ideas coming out of Lucas. I'd love to see it happen, but I wouldn't count on it.

And as long as it took Indy IV to get made, I mean... really, it might never happen anyway. It would be extremely funny though if they developed the entire fifth movie's idea in the next year, wrote a script and shot it for a 2010 or 2011 release and it wound up better than KOTCS which took like, over a decade to create.

Yeah it took forever for Indy IV, but it took 2 years for TOD and 5 years for LC. Since they're actually trying to make a new one, i think it's more comparable to the space between TOD and LC

What about this?
Indiana Jones and the Sacred Relic
The Story Synopsis.
It is 1959 the Cold War is beginning to escalate. The tension between Communist and Capitalist doctrine is heightening. Each side is looking for something that will finally vanquish their foe. In this climate Indy finds himself in a race with China, the United States and Great Britain to find the greatest relic of all, the True Cross of Christ. For each know whoever holds the ultimate symbol of Christianity holds the balance of power, over the world.
Characters
Van Leung ? an elite officer of the Chinese army. Cold, calculating and cunning. His loyalty to China and its Communist government is unwavering. He will stop at nothing to retrieve the Cross of Christ.
Thomas Thorne ? member of the British Secret Service MI6. Working with the US army. His vast knowledge of spy networks and ability to use this to anticipate his opponent?s next move makes him highly desirable in the Cold War environment. The pursuit of the cross is a race he wants to be first over the finish line.
General Cooper-Harding ? a general in the US army. Comes from a family with a long line of military service dating back to the war of independence. A fierce patriot, his pursuit of the Cross of Christ lies in preventing the Chinese obtaining it so they cannot use it to spread their Communist doctrine.
Indy ? the famous archaeologist. His ability to obtain rare ancient artefacts makes his value in the race for the True Cross a priority. He may have gotten older but he has also gotten wiser. Unlike previous adventures, in this race, fortune and glory is not the prize.
Marion Ravenwood - now married to Indy and still as feisty as ever. Her help to recover the Ark of the Covenant and Crystal Skull was legendary. Her help to find the Cross of Christ will be invaluable.
Preston Ryan ? a former student of Indy. His pursuit of the True Cross has been an obsession since leaving College. His association with the Chinese is unclear. He has always admired Indy but unlike Indy his academic skills far out way his physical prowess.
Sallah ? a long time friend of Indy. He was with Indy when he retrieved the Ark of the Covenant and the Holy Grail. His connections in Egypt and his great friendship with Indy makes him a valuable ally.

Himalaya 1959.
Exterior Ghengis Kahn?s tomb.
The wind is bellowing and the snow is falling. Four men battle the blizzard. One seems to direct the other packed laden men. The leader wears the all too familiar fedora. Indy motions towards a rock that seems out of place. He presses the rock in and suddenly the ground before them gives way revealing a downward spiral staircase. The three men behind Indy gasp. Indy begins his descent. The three men have a quick lively discussion in Cantonese. One breaks off.
Zhou ?I?m going with him. You know what to do!?
Interior Ghengis Kahn?s tomb.
Indy and Zhou are on the stone stairs. ?Don?t touch anything. Gimme the torch.? Indy turns Zhou around and takes a torch from his backpack. They begin to slowly descent in to the dark abyss. A loud CLICK breaks the silence ?Did you touch anything??
?Well no, just maybe, YESS!?
The stairs flatten and become a slide rocketing Indy and Zhou down. The flashlight beam swings wildly. Indy sees a ledge briefly illuminated by the light. He jumps. Just regaining his balance. Turns. Crack! Indy?s whip catches Zhou wrapping itself around his wrist. Indy pulls him up. The torch reveals massive spikes at the bottom of the stairs/slide. ?I said don?t touch anything.? Zhou nods approval. Indy turns around and uses the flashlight to search the bleakness before them. A small hole in the wall catches his eye. Indy ?Hold this.? ?Indy hands the torch back to Zhou. ?I?ll need my lucky charm for this. ?Indy reaches into the pocket of his leather jacket and pulls out a lighter emblazed with a four leaf clover. Flicks it on and heads for the hole in wall. Zhou watches as Indy walks slowly to the wall and places the lighter into the small alcove. A moment passes then a tiny flicker begins to emerge from where Indy had placed his hand. Indy turns to Zhou and grins ?There that should shed some light on the subject.? ?The flicker ignites some old fuel.

@The Man, yes your first point is valid and I agree with it - look what happened with KotCS - but that is why we are having this discussion. We want a return to the quality we expect. Listening to Larry Kasdan talking on the bonus material DVD, we can see why Raiders was so good. I don't know if he would avail himself for a script to an Indy 5, but it would be great if he did. Mind you, I didn't hate KotCS, but I felt they made compromises for whatever reasons and it wasn't quite up to the Raiders standard.

Whom ever writes it i would love to see the films move in a slightly different direction from the fourth. Perhaps a film noir maybe somewhere in Asia.

Kasdan is the man for this job. Seriously now; he knows the formula, he knows the character and as far as we know he's in good terms with Lucas, Spielberg and Ford (right?).

Not to mention he's obviously capable of writing a kick-ass Indy film. :whip:

Lucas and Nathanson can draft the story again, but please bring back Kasdan to do the actual writing!

(If they want to bring new talent to the Indy team, maybe the guys who wrote Zorro and Pirates of the Caribbean could have a try...)

Forget all those guys. I'm knee-deep in research right now, penning my own version of Indy 5. It's got everything. A genuine sense of danger, possibly two femme fatales, a change in scenery, a natural disaster, a creepy crawlie that no one has mentioned, yet everyone has heard of. And an epic, ethereal fight for the end of his quest. As soon as it gets shot down and I get a rejection letter, I'll post the whole darn thing. (somewhere, anyway). Otherwise, my lips are sealed for now.

(I want to spill it sooooo bad!)
