"When the Ark gets loaded we're already gonna be on the plane"

The Flying Wing fight scene is my favourite action scene ever, but did anyone think Indy's plan was ridiculous? What was he going to do, knock out the pilot, strip him, put on his gear and pretend to be him? Yes, I'm sure Belloq and the Nazis wouldn't recognise him in such a cunning disguise.

Indy was hoping that he would go unnoticed long enough for the ark to be loaded. Then he'd lock up the plane and fly away.

And even if Doc Jones got on the plane and no one saw him get on it he would still be screwed...............

Good point...

But it was a really cool explosion, right?

I'm going to be watching this again in a few weeks. I'll have to reanalyze that scene... I'll get back to you.

Yeah, I always wondered where exactly they were gonna put it on the plane... and why THAT plane...

Real answer: Because Spielberg wanted it to be THAT plane since one like it never really existed and blow it up!

Under the plane.

Does anyone else find it impossible to picture that thing flying in the air? I do, I can't picture it anywhere else but on the ground, going in circles and then blowing up.

But the crate is too big for the plane is my point. I never saw how it could fit in any kind of storage hold on that thing. It's very small. And why a fighter/bomber type of plane? Wouldn't it be on a cargo plane escorted by fighters or bombers?

Haha, but again yes I know the real answer.

The main thing is Indy's "plan" is so ridiculous. That said, its still my favourite action scene in the trilogy.

You mean because you're so used to seeing it in that scene? Yeah, I can't picture it in the air, but not for that reason. It looks so big and heavy I can't see it gliding through the air.

Well, it's a combination of both. I mean, you never actually see it in the air, and then on top of that, you look at it and you just cannot picture that thing flying. It just looks so bizarre.

I can picture it flying.

it does look heavy, like you guys have said, but only because the wings are thick looking. they are actually pretty standard for the time period.

the only radical part of the wing design are the winglets, which were not in use at the time but clearly would have been nessesary on this plane.

5 engines would make it pretty quick, hence why the germans would want to use it, and since it is a (night?) fighter/ bomber it would probably have space enough for the ark.

i always thought it was a pretty good visual actually

I'm sure thats why the chose it. It looks really cool and unique, and its massive as well. But I still can't picture that thing in the air. Still, skilled engineers designed it, so who am I to criticize.

I think there would have been room for the crate. It wasn't THAT big. Also Indy might not know how to land a plane but hey, he was making things up as he went along!;)
