One thing that has always bugged me (and obviously others) is that the original series doesn't truly exist in any form anymore and hasn't since 1996, when for some reason Lucas made the decision to tie two separate episodes together using newly shot linking footage to make feature length films.
My question is, does anyone know why Lucas made the decision to make them films rather than leave each story as a standalone episode?
Couldn't he have gotten rid of the Old Indy segments (if that was the main reason) and began and ended the episodes in some other way, perhaps with re-shot footage or with Young Indy himself providing narration?
