Can we get Indy around the globe ?

That's some nice camera (and editing) work right there. Got to appreciate.

And oh, as a late reference to:

HEHE I got this message: "Man, that site is such an ass. Why do I have to await moderation in order to post pics? I've signed up with various forums before and I've always been able to post messages and pics right away."

My apologies on behalf of the board upkeep, but the forum software's a bit outdated, which means our spambot filters aren't exactly up to speed either. We either resort to manual member screening or run around the tables squatting Cialis ads popping up all over the place. Your call.

Finn, I'm using a Canon S100 set with aperture priority. I highly recommend it if you want a high end point and shoot camera. Word on the street is that it's a common back up camera for professional shutterbugs and it definitely deserves that reputation.

As for my message to Nick, I wasn't really expecting him to post that. ;-) My apologies if that was offensive, but I tend to say a few colorful words here and there when I get frustrated.

EDIT: Added link to Canon's website.

Thanks for the tip on equipment.

Don't we all.

No need to sweat it, just figured it might be courteous to clear up the issue with the tight security.

Yah, I was relying on the (generally) great sense of humor of most posters to the Raven exhibit :D Thought they would get a 'kick' out of it :whip:

Moving on, great photo set! I really dug how even WWII ruins can look like ancient ruins and the historic setting seems a natural for Indy, fun though the 'tourist shots' are. Looks like you had a great time! Any 'curious onlooker' tales wondering what the ~!@#$%^&*( you were up to? :)

Thanks Nick! I had a great time, indeed! I wish I could stay longer but you know what the deal is! ;-) I got some "real work" waiting for me when I get back.

Most onlookers were just curious and just smiled at me with amazement, none of that, "You can't take any d*** f****** pictures here!" :-D

Indy goes on a 10-12 hour road trip to...

Vigan, Ilocos Sur.

After 9 1/2 hours of the butt-numbing bus ride, he decides to stop by Banaoang/Quirino Bridge:

Indy by the river bank:

Gets bored and decides to climb up the mountain:

Finally reached the top:

Then snaps this beautiful, majestic image:

Decides to cross the bridge to get a different view:

And snaps another beautiful pic:

Then catches another bus on the way to Vigan.

After half an hour, Indy finally gets to Vigan City...

... however, instead of going straight to his hotel, he decides to stop by the Hidden Garden:

Hmmm, what's he looking for?

Checking out the plants:

Fatigue finally catches up to him and he decides to take 5:

And another 5, this time with other fellow tourists:

Uhm, Indy, it says "don't touch the cage!" :-S

Boy, he's really tired:

Turns out he just needs to replenish:

Indy feels reenergized...

... and takes that Kalesa (horse carriage) ride to Calle Crisologo to shop for souvenirs.

Ok, he's not feeling the huge crowds, so he decides to get a ride to his hotel:

He gets dropped off and walks to Gordion Hotel:

And checks in to get some much needed rest...

That night, Indy decides to take a walk to Calle Crisologo...

Hey look, no crowds:

Completely awestruck by the old Spanish-style houses:

Trivia: "Stories have been told which suggest that the city of Vigan was spared destruction out of love. During the later part of the Second World War, retreating Japanese troops would blaze any town before leaving so that American forces could not make use of them. However, one Japanese general who lived and married a local girl in Vigan, made a pact with the parish priest to spare the city in exchange that the priest would take care of his family. The Japanese general may not have survived the war, but his undying love for his family saved a very lovely town and became one of Philippine?s most famous destinations."

MDP78, all of your Calle Crisologo shots are gorgeous and are a wonderful addition to Mini-Indy's travels. What a pleasant & unexpected surprise.(y)

Who would have ever thought that Inky Skin's project would have turned out as fun as this?:D

Stoo, thanks for all the compliments. I have to admit I was under a lot of pressure to produce decent pictures after seeing what had been posted on this thread. Though I thought this would also be a good opportunity to get Indy on the other side of the globe, and also push my photography and photo editing skills. I'm very happy with the results and I think they turned out better than I had expected. :whip:

I also got a lot of encouragement and support from my company, most of whom you'll see as recurring extras in some pics. I had an extra hand sometimes holding my camera on the other side so I can stabilize it while my other hand held Indy. ;-) They're also lurking on these boards, waiting for me to post the rest of the pics we took wherever we went.

Believe it or not, inspite of us getting only about 5-15 minutes of taking pics, walking around and what have you in Corregidor, I still managed to take personal photos. There were always at least 2 people who brought cameras within our group, me included, so there was/were always designated folks to take personal pics. It was truly fun to shoot Indy in these locations and given another chance, I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

I'm posting a few more sets in the next few days. Some of these may not be as visually and/or technically impressive, but they complete Indy's journey in the Philippines. I'm sure you've noticed that I employed a flowing story to the pictures.

After that, if you guys aren't tired of me posting pics yet ;-), you'll see some pics that didn't make the cut, and just some things that I took for kicks and giggles. (y)

After getting a good night's rest in Vigan...

... Indy learns that the house of Fr. Jose Burgos, a Filipino secular priest accused of mutiny by the Spanish colonial authorities in the Philippines in the 19th century and was summarily executed in Manila along with two other clergymen, is just walking distance from his hotel. The fact that it is now a museum has piqued the interest of our favorite archaeologist, so he ventures out to the museum early in the morning:

Indy_FrBurgos_01.jpg

Mmmm... museum! :)

Indy_FrBurgos_02.jpg

Checking out some native tools and weapons:

Indy_FrBurgos_03.jpg

"Is that thing to my right an early sewing machine?"

Indy_FrBurgos_04.jpg

Checking out replicas of Japanese and Spanish galleon trade ships...

Indy_FrBurgos_05.jpg

And a bust of the erstwhile homeowner:

Indy_FrBurgos_06.jpg

"I know I'm not supposed to sit here but, whatever..."

Indy_FrBurgos_07.jpg

"I have one at home too!!!"

Indy_FrBurgos_08.jpg

"Wonder if this works... need to call home." ;-)

Indy_FrBurgos_09.jpg

He then walks out to the garden to relax for a bit. "Where's tea and/or coffee when you need it?"

That same day, Indy asked one of the locals to drive him to 2 beaches...

...local to Vigan. Oh, no skinny dipping, just wanna have a good, relaxing time :)

At Sto. Domingo Beach:

Viewing the remains of a trading port that was bombed by the Japanese in WW2:

Indy_Sta_Catalina_Beach_02.jpg

Just before sundown, he heads to San Ildefonso beach, where the sunset is said to be a sight to behold, and where the sand is 95% black!

Indy standing on black sand, which is rich in iron ore.

Then snaps this beautiful sunset photo, with bonus heavenly bodies. No, not those! ;-) :

Indy heads back to Manila that night for his flight back to San Francisco.

After another 8 hour bus trip from Vigan back to Manila...

...Indy stays at a local hotel to wait it out for his flight back to San Francisco the following night.

The time has come for him to leave, keeping with him the wonderful memories of his stay in the Philippines, as well as the hospitality of the locals that is truly one of a kind.

At the waiting area of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport:

Indy_NAIA.jpg

On board Philippine Airlines flight PR 104, bound for SFO:

Indy_PAL.jpg

After 11 hours, he arrives at the San Francisco International Airport.

Walking past the conveyor belt. "It's nice to just have a carry on."

Indy_SFO_Airport_01.jpg

At the lobby, waiting for his shuttle bus back to Oakland. Rumor has it that he's about to meet up with a man who has a large collection of model tanks, Star Wars toys and.... Indiana Jones Toys! :D

~ THE END ~ :whip:

More fantastic shots...

Love the color in this one:

Indy_Gordion_Hotel_01.jpg

Reminds me of the Tunisian set dressing in Raiders. Love the street scenes, night and day. Brick pavers, balconies, thatched rooves and cracked concrete.

Indy still turning some heads...great work.

MDP78,

I couldn't possibly be more blown away by the staggering, extraordinary quality of the images you have posted.

What an incredible trip you (and Indy) must have had. The locales are stunning - wish I could have been there.

And the quality of the pictures themselves is beyond impressive. I am endlessly amused by the forced-perspective shots of Indy "sitting" or "posing" with other people and whatnot. You truly have a very talented eye.

Your participation in this project has been nothing short of epic. I think you have raised the bar on so many levels.

Thank you so much for your amazing work! Following these pictures - even from my laptop - has been an adventure in and of itself.

Bravo!

MDP, you did a great job and it's nice to know that Nick had enough trust in a non-Raven regular to pull it off and bring him back safely. Personally, it was pleasing to see that you used the luggage in many of the shots and followed suit by including a narrative. I was the 1st one to have the figure and had a lot of fun doing forced perspective shots so I'm glad you also contined that tradition as well (even if you faked some of them)!;)

Off topic but...Did you happen to visit any sites of the 1899-1902 Philppine-American War?

@Lance Quazar : thank you for all your kind words. TI and I had an incredible trip, indeed! I didn't want to disappoint any of our fellow Raveners as this was not an established route for Indy, and I'm thankful to all of you guys for allowing TI to go with me to the Philippines. Hopefully the next folks in line will continue the tradition of taking fun and unique pictures, if not with forced-perspective shots.

@NickTurner : Plane was bumpy at the time and with 2 hours to go before touchdown, it was then or never! :) Believe it or not, of the several pics I took this was the best that came out.

@Stoo : NickTurner and I have known each other for almost 6 years. Been to his house several times and he's never complained of missing collectibles (so far :D ). I'm actually meeting him at the local pub tonight so I can hand TI back to him.

As far as the "faked" pictures go, I'd say they were only partially faked. I did maintain a certain level of integrity with the pictures, meaning Indy was where he is in the pics! It would defeat the whole purpose of the exercise to copy and paste a pic of him in any background, as I or anyone on the boards can just copy and paste a pic of TI on any place/backdrop he hasn't really been to. I'm sure our fellow Raveners would rather see the pics I've posted above than these: ;)

IMG_0560.jpg

IMG_1073.jpg

IMG_0874.jpg

As you can see, my hand would've been a big eyesore if I kept the original pictures. Part of my goal was to push my photography and photo editing skills and some of these shots wouldn't have been possible if we stuck to the good ol' "Take-a-pic-of-Indy-and-crop-his-feet-so-no-one-can-see-your-hand" formula. At least they don't look as incredible as the infamous "nuked the fridge" scene on KOTCS! :p

WRT to visiting sites of the 1899-1902 Philippine-American War, no we didn't get to go to any of them. The closest is a carved mural in Corregidor, which happened to be a background in one of the TI pics that didn't make it past the cutting room. I'll be posting those soon.
