The idol's eyes do move on-screen!

I don't know if this has been mentioned already, but it's the first time I've been able to see it. I was watching the full-screen Raiders dvd and finally noticed the idol's eyes do indeed move slightly and momentarily to the left of the screen looking toward's indy's approach to the altar and then return to peering straight at the camera. This occurs very quickly at about 7:14-7:16. Though it was known that a remote control servo device was installed in the hero idol, I had always thought that for some reason the effect had not made it to the final cut. But I should have known that they wouldn't have gone to that trouble without at least trying it- though the effect is very subtle as to be nearly subliminal. It's difficult to see but it's there. Check it out!

Welcome reneeb!

Yes, the eyes do move a bit, but the primary shots of the moving eyes were cut, so you have to be looking for it to see it.

why did they want the eyes to move, and why were the scenes cut?

I'm just guessing here, but I would assume that they wanted the eyes to move becuase they thought it would look cool and that the scenes were cut because it didn't.
