Q: Would you want to do a straight adaptation from one of the novels?

Marshall: Actually, there is. "The Parsifal Mosaic" is one that we like.

"The Parsifal Mosiac," not a "Bourne" adventure as a novel, deals with a U.S. spy who falls in love with another spy who is revealed to be a double agent just before her death. When he retires from the business, though, the spy learns that she may still be alive and sets out to learn the truth.

Not "The Parsifal Mosaic"...?

The Parsifal Mosaic Not the Fourth Bourne?
Source: Variety February 12, 2009

In an interview with producer Frank Marshall last December, Marshall said that they were eyeing Robert Ludlum's "The Parsifal Mosaic" as the story for the fourth "Bourne" movie. Now, however, Variety says the fourth film and "Parsifal Mosaic" will be two separate films.

Universal is negotiating for screen rights to "Mosaic," an espionage thriller that shapes up as the first major project for Captivate Entertainment, the company that controls screen rights to Ludlum novels.

Universal is working on a fourth "Bourne" film for Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass based on an original idea, and Universal and Strike Entertainment are preparing an adaptation of Ludlum's "The Sigma Protocol."

"The Parsifal Mosaic" revolves around a U.S. intelligence agent who thinks he witnesses the of his lover, who was identified as a KGB double agent.

He retires, but sees her alive at a train station and attempts to find her and unravel a conspiracy. Soon, the agents become involved in an effort to track down Parsifal, a shadowy figure behind a blackmail scheme.

Universal is expected to put the film on a fast track.

Matt Damon has dismissed James Bond as being stuck in the past.

Disgusting ;)

Bond is timeless, Bourne is simply 'flavour of the week'.

In 20 years time no-one will remember Bourne.
No way man! The Bourne series have been so much more then just a flavor of the week! They've single-handedly shook up the action genre since 2002, with the majority of films coming out attempting to emulate their look and feel. KOTCS is one example alone, where Frank Marshall referenced how they would have to up the ante on the action due to the bar being set so high by the Bourne films.

Not to mention if it wasn't for Bourne, we wouldn't have got one of the best Bond entries ever, Casino Royale! Next to Dr. No, Goldfinger, and From Russia with Love, CR was leaps and bounds ahead of the rest of the films. And that goes for all of Moore's, Dalton's, and Brosnan's installments!

Give me Bourne over Bond anyday!

What about Lazenby? The only 'bad' Bond film IMO is Die Another Day.

Bourne has as much personality as a plastic cup. Atleast you can tell what's going on in the Bond films! :p

Well if I included Dalton I should've included Lazenby...the other boring Bond!;)

I used to love the Moore films when I was a kid, but when I got older I found the early Connery films to be the best! Moore's Bond was just too cartoony, and personally I always found him a bit sissified. The same goes for Brosnan, and it didn't help that I couldn't shake the image of Remington Steele. The only two to do the series justice has been Connery and Craig in my opinion, with only a handful of films being actually good and not straying into Austin Powers territory!

Bourne is way more easy to relate to then Bond, who is almost a superhero in a lot of ways, and for me that has always been one of the biggest draws! As for him having the personality of a plastic cup...well it's kind of part of the character and storyline! I'll take seriousness and grit over invisible cars and goofy one-liners any day of the week!

Boring! I reccomend you watch OHMSS, TLD & LTK again (If you're based in the UK, you might be able to catch the end of TLD on ITV1, if not, LTK

Moore may not suit today's world where everything has to be dark/gritty or whatever you want to call it :p but the box-office was huge!

I agree with you about the early Connery's though ;)

Die Another Day is the only Bond film with an invisible car (which is ironically at the bottom of my list) and Moore was the only Bond with 'goofy one-liners'

It was the actors I found boring not necessarily the films! Lazenby and Dalton were just very forgettable and bland in my opinion.

Yeah I agree the box office grosses were huge, but they still got more and more cheesey as they progressed ie. Moonraker!

What about On Her Majesty's Secret Service, For Your Eyes Only, The Living Daylights, Licence To Kill, Goldeneye & The World Is Not Enough?
For Your Eyes Only is still my favorite Moore film, but over time the others just didn't do it for me! Don't get me wrong, there were some great stunts, amazing locales, and beautiful women, but overall I just found them mehhhh!

Yeah, but Moore had a submersible car which was cool when I was 10 but goofy as hell when I saw it recently! As for the one-liners, they've all had them, and I agree Moore takes the prize, but Connery and Brosnan sure contributed their fare share of quips!

While I enjoyed the first three films quite a bit, I really think they should leave the series as it is. The only way I can justify having a fourth film is if they use the Carlos vs. Bourne aspect from the novels.

A Work In Progress...

Q: Is it official that you?ll return as Jason Bourne for a fourth time?

A: We?re working on it. This time it would be from an original script rather than a book by Robert Ludlum. But the director, Paul Greengrass, is busy and I am too, so we?ll see what happens.

Gilroy's in, Damon's out (for now), and details emerge...

http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/10/09/no-jason-bourne-in-the-bourne-legacy-says-director-tony-gilroy/

It?s a completely original screenplay?.This is not a reboot or a recast or a prequel. No one?s replacing Matt Damon. There will be a whole new hero, a whole new chapter?this is a stand-alone project.

The easiest way to think of it is an expansion or a reveal?Jason Bourne will not be in this film, but he?s very much alive. What happened in the first three films is the trigger for what happens. I?m building a legend and an environment and a wider conspiracy?the world we?re making enhances and advances and invites Jason Bourne?s return [down the road].

I don't actually mind the idea (although its gonna be strange to have a "Bourne" film w/o Bourne, but) since for once its not a remake/reboot and actually leaves room for Damon to return if he should wish to.

Matt Damon responds...

http://popwatch.ew.com/2010/10/27/matt-damon-bourne-liberace/

"Yeah, though Tony is a really clever guy. My guess is he has thought of a really great way to do it, to create a whole world that feels like the Bourne world, where Jason Bourne is very much alive and out there. We?ll see. I wish him well. It can only help us if it?s really good. And Tony at this point is an A-list director in his own right. He doesn?t have to do the movie. The fact that he found something that he felt was worthy of doing, I think, says a lot."

Another franchise for LaBeouf?

http://blog.moviefone.com/2011/03/01/superman-casting-rumors-mortensen-day-lewis/

The production is said to be looking for actors in their mid-20s to early-30s, which puts Labeouf right in the sweet spot. LaBeouf might have the inside track for the gig, given that he worked with producer Gary Marshall on 2008's 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.' No official decision has been made yet, but Universal hopes to get the production rolling later this spring. 'The Bourne Legacy' is due to hit theaters on Aug. 3, 2012

Offers out to Jeremy Renner, but will he take it?

http://www.deadline.com/2011/04/universal-chooses-jeremy-renner-for-the-bourne-legacy/

The search is over. Universal Pictures has formally offered Jeremy Renner the lead role in the Tony Gilroy-directed The Bourne Legacy. Renner, who has been nominated for Oscars the past two years for his work in The Hurt Locker and The Town, is expected to sign on quickly to play a new character in the spinoff film that begins production in September. Like the Jason Bourne character played by Matt Damon in the first three The Bourne Identity thrillers, Renner will play an operative from a covert government program that is even more dangerous than the Treadstone brainwashing program that hatched Bourne.

Rachel Weisz is now being offered a role in Bourne Legacy. Although the part is unknown it's sure to be on of considerable merit to the film.
Rachel Weisz is in serious talks to star in the female lead role in "The Bourne Legacy" for Universal Pictures says Deadline. .....
Weisz's role is uncertain, though best bet it will be something akin to the role of either Chris Cooper or Brian Cox in the first two films.

Still no official word if Renner has accepted the role for the lead.
