Will it have sufficient clout to dethrone The Dark Knight, the greatest event in the history of Planet Earth, from the No. 1 spot?

Well, duh, no! But I hope this turns out to be a kick-ass, laugh-out-loud adventure thrill ride!

I'm looking forward to it. Should be fun and I guess this will be the last big blockbuster for the summer of 2008 as the summer movie season winds down. Probably the best summer for movies in recent years.

CGI and Abominable Snowmen aside, this looks like a fun summer adventure film. Like KOTCS, except this one is actually supposed to be slapstick comedy. On second thought, I guess I can't really pick on it for said Abominable Snowmen...at least it's not aliens.

agreed HK, I always liked the fact the Mummy movies do not take themselves too seriously. I am pretty much a fan of anything with Abominable Snowmen, zombies and Caddyshack (except caddyshack 2, that was horrible)

'..."The Mummy 3" is relentless, artless, convoluted, noisy, charmless, and unfunny.'

Sounds like a fine companion for Crystal Balls...

Ugh...nonstop negativity. Disgusting. I can't believe a person can be so hateful towards a movie that OBVIOUSLY is meant to be comedy mixed with thrills. Screw her. GO TEAM COHEN!!!

The reviews on rottentomatoes.com are not any better. Only 3 of 25 liked it so far. It's at 13%. Say what you want about Indy 4 but I bet it looks like a classic compared to this movie. Sigh. I was hoping for a good Mummy film.

You and me both!

It's now at 09% on Rotten Tomatoes, and if you really want to be swayed into seeing something else this weekend read this:http://www.aintitcool.com/node/37726

Um...your precious film critics gave KOTCS a 76%, which is really good on their standards, so I have no idea where you're going with this.

It can't be any worse than KOTCS. I mean, it seriously can't. Even if it's a joke of a film, it has the benefit of having been constructed for that purpose.

I haven't seen it yet but I thought the first Mummy was really good and the second one. Well, it was a horrible movie. But the third looks like it COULD be decent. Although the reviews certainly hint that it will suck.

I dunno. I'm on the fence about spending cash to see it. I mean, I realize it might suck but I have seen TDK 3 times. How many times can I go see that thing? (answer: probably 4)

'...So far, "The Dark Knight" has been untouchable.

That may change this weekend when "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" opens. The Rob Cohen-directed film looks to unseat "Knight" if it hits around the predicted $50 million mark, according to Fantasymoguls.com.'

'...I'm pretty sure Devin said he liked it more than Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, but I think I liked Krull more than IJ&TKOTCS, so there's that.'

'...Sh!t. Unmitigated, inexcusable sh!t. I can’t remember the last time I looked around and saw so many critics positively mortified to be watching what they were watching. We were embarrassed to be in that theater. It is a humbling, humiliating experience that will take anyone who b!tched about nuked fridges and swinging monkeys and show them just how much Spielberg and Lucas actually got right.'

'...Back in the day I gave Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull a C. I originally took some heat, but since then cooler heads have prevailed and now you can't cross the street without someone mentioning that they hated Indy too. Heck, even Dre will admit that he only remembers monkeys and nuclear fridges from the film he once held so dear. I get it. Bright lights, big sounds, and grain liquor can occasionally throw off an otherwise sensible fellow. No harm, no foul. I bring this up only to point out the one happy fact about The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor: even though it's fairly dumb it's still better than Indy. Score!' (y)
