Video Clip: The Cairo Swordfight-that-wasn't

The 5th DVD (the bonus disc that you get if you buy the Indy DVD set at Best Buy) has a few seconds of the original "The Sword vs. The Whip" scene (anyone who's read the original Raiders script should get that joke ;)). I have been asked to cut out that clip and post it, so here it is.

The video is currently available in DivX format; you will need the DivX codec from http://www.DivX.com to view it. However, if you really want it in another format, or at a higher quality (the current bitrate is 320 Kbps), let me know. Also, if you have problems downloading it, let me know - the server that I'm currently using is nothing special, to say the least. ;) In fact, if someone is able to host it for me somewhere else, I'd appreciate that. ;)

Please post your comments about the video after you watch it - I'm curious to hear what you guys have to say about it. ;)

Enjoy! :D

When I play it on Windows Media Player, all I hear is the music and backround. I guess I need to download that expansion, right?

Cool.

First you have to download that codec, and then right click and "Save target as".

Hmm, very interesting.

I'm actually lucky enough to own that part of footage as it is on the Making of Raiders VHS tape. :D

It's quite an interesting clip because in some ways I think that it would have made a very good scene (check out the way that Harrison cracks that whip! It's fantastic!).
On the other hand, I think that the scene which replaced this is hilarious and works wonderfully.

BTW, there are some pictures on TRN showing this scene.

Wow... that would have been cool. but the finale cut was possibly the funniest part in the film so I'm not disapointed. :)

Someone please confirm that the scimitar is real metal!

Maybe the less seen of that thing the better. Man, that's what the swords looked like that I made when I was a teen.

Good point Joe, not what you would call fine Spanish (German Steel if you are a Ramones Fan) Steel!

Any chance to see this scene somewhere? I do not possess the 5th DVD nor do I the VHS casette. The link says that :

"We have detected a hotlinking error. Hotlinking is when you link to images or NON html files on 0catch.com from another host. Hotlinking is not allowed for our FREE Accounts. Hotlinking is allowed for our paid accounts. Your account can be upgraded in the user section when you have logged in."

Please, if someone has it, could he/she share it on, for example, some file-sharing service like rapidshare or similar?

THANX :whip: :whip: :whip: :whip: :whip: :whip: :whip:

Yep, the final cut is certainly better.

Who would have thought that the fact that Harrison Ford felt ill one day would improve the movie... ;)

Ford is a great innovator, and he didn't want to suffer the fate of John Rhys Davies who happily 'defecated' in his costume on set.

There's something about the flippant manner in which Indy shoots the swordsman that reveals the almost anti-hero nature of Indy (the grave robbing side of the character). It makes him more interesting than your average matinee hero. :gun:

It also set up the chance to revisit the gag at the end of Temple of Doom.
