Your Indy Fiction Collection Discussion...

Wanted to start a thread for general discussion of the various Indy novels, comics, RPGs, etc, but aimed from a collecting standpoint. For instance, do you own any rare or valuable Indy novels or comics. Are there any particular pieces of your collection you're especially proud of? Or are there certain books or comics you're still looking for to complete your collections? For me, I'm an avid Indy collector, especially when it comes to the expanded universe fiction.

My Indy Expanded Universe collection includes:

-all the regular novels (MacGregor, McCoy, Caidin)

-6 of the 8 Hohlbein German novels (still need two)

-comics/trades released in the US (all the Further Adventures of IJ by Marvel, as well as all the DH comics)

-printed copies of the very rare UK tales Mountains of Superstition and Treasure of Monte Cassana scans courtesy of BrodyIsDead (y)

-I have two of the three French Indy comics (the original Bagheera version of Cite de la Foundre, and the Shell reprint of Secret de la Pyramid)

-complete collection of the TSR Indy RPGs, and an almost complete collection of the WEG Indy RPG's (only missing 1 WEG book - Lands of Adventure)

-a couple of rare RPG adventures in their original publications (Shadis #17 and #35/36), and printed copies of ALL other RPG adventures from various other RPG/Gaming magazines

I'm still looking for a lot of the European, hard-to-find in the US Indy fiction:

-still need two of the German novels by Hohlbein: IJ und die Gefiederte Schlange and IJ und das Gold von El Dorado

-Indiana Jones et le Grimoire Maudit (and preferably the Bagheera version of Secret de la Pyramid...I have the Shell version)

-and all seven Young Indy (Indiana Jones Jr) French original novels: Indiana Jones Jr et le Météorite Sacrée, Indiana Jones Jr et le Triangle des Bermudes, Indiana Jones Jr et le Fantôme du Klondike, Indiana Jones Jr et l'Ampoule Radioactive, Indiana Jones Jr et le Violon du Metropolitan, Indiana Jones Jr et l'Enfant Lama, Indiana Jones Jr et le Spectre de Venise

-only missing one RPG book, the WEG Indy RPG Lands of Adventure book (this is available in the US, just hard to find)

So whats in your Indy fiction collection? What are you looking to add to your collection?

My Indy book collection's still getting off the ground, unfortunately, it took several years for me to look beyond the movies. My obsession was a bit of a delayed reaction. I hope to someday get EVERYTHING in it. Hey, gotta have dreams, right?
That said, one of my favorite items, and one of the first I got, is a first edition "Raiders of the Lost Ark" novelization. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I always thought that was kinda rare, because I've only ever found the reprint for sale on the Internet. I got it for like a dollar at a neighborhood book sale (y)

I'm not quite sure, but I imagine the original printing (the one you have) is probably hard to find and worth a fair amount...its over 25 years old! ;)

Doesn't look to be worth a dime. I see several for less than 3 bucks on AbeBooks. And they are advertised as being in nice shape. Age and value are not at all proportionate. It's supply and demand just like anything else. If they put out a large first-run and no one wants 'em, the market won't give you much return.

So whats in your Indy fiction collection? What are you looking to add to your collection?

Here's what I have:

Novels and Novel Adaptions:
- All 12 Bantam novels
- The Adventures of Indiana Jones (RotLA, ToD, LC)
- Raiders of the Lost Ark (in very poor shape, was a library discard I picked up during junior high. it's the one with the red foil cover)
- Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, James Rollins novelization

"Choose Your Own Adventure" Type Books:
- The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles #1: The Valley of the Kings
- The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles #2: South of the Border
- Find Your Fate Adventure #4: Indiana Jones and the Eye of the Fates

Comics:
- Dark Horse Omnibus Volumes #1 and #2
- Kingdom of the Crystal Skull comic adaption

Specialty Books:
- The Lost Journal of Indiana Jones
- The Indiana Jones Handbook
- Indiana Jones: The Ultimate Guide

Magazines:
- Indiana Jones Magazine Issues #1 to #3
- Mad Magazine June 2008 (Indiana Jones issue)
- Archaeology Magazine May/June 2008 (Crystal Skull article)

As for things that I want to add. I would like to find the rest of the Find Your Fate books. I would also like to get all the Marver comics. I haven't yet gotten the new comics that are out now, so hopefully I'll add those as soon.

Sorry Johnny Jones, didn't mean to get your hopes up.

Nice collection. As for the Find Your Fate books, you can usually find them for pretty cheap (and in decent or good shape) on Ebay or Amazon. I'm still looking for the original printings of Cult of the Mummy's Crypt and Ape Slaves of Howling Island, I only have the early 90's reprints, focusing on RL Stine as the author.

The Marvel Further Adventures comics are pretty easy to find given that they're 25 years old. I think the Marvel adaptations of the movies are harder to find. Again, Ebay is your best bet for full runs, but many online comic sites might have single issues available also (as well as the new DH issues).

The Find Your Fate books are kind of rare...depending on the shape they're in I've seen them sell for up to $20 on Ebay.

Just for future reference. :)

And after looking over this thread and estimating how much we've all spent on Indy related literature (not to mention the other merchandise), its no wonder George Lucas is a very rich man. :p

Yeah, I've seen copies at libraries in the past. They're usually beat up pretty bad, but still readable!

-still need two of the German novels by Hohlbein: IJ und die Gefiederte Schlange and IJ und das Gold von El Dorado

This finally arrived (the volume which collects two of the German novels into one book). I ordered it early July, and it finally showed up in my mailbox! Well, thats all the German novels (though since I'm a perfectionist I''ll probably try to track down the single volumes as well).

Also, the Bagheera version of Indiana Jones et le Secret de la Pyramide should be arriving in the next few weeks (I got lucky and tracked down a copy on Ebay).

So, still need:

-all seven French Young Indy novels: Indiana Jones Jr et le Météorite Sacrée, Indiana Jones Jr et le Triangle des Bermudes, Indiana Jones Jr et le Fantôme du Klondike, Indiana Jones Jr et l'Ampoule Radioactive, Indiana Jones Jr et le Violon du Metropolitan, Indiana Jones Jr et le Spectre de Venise, Indiana Jones Jr et l'Enfant Lama

-the Bagheera comic "Indiana Jones et le Grimoire Maudit"

-Indiana Jones and the Lands of Adventure RPG book

...and my Indy fiction collection will be complete!
