Paramount Pictures announced Tuesday that they are moving forward with producing 'Mission Impossible IV' and that Tom Cruise will star and produce.

J.J. Abrams, who directed 'Mission: Impossible III,' will co-produce the film, which will be based on an idea from Cruise and Abrams and will hit theaters Memorial Day weekend 2011.

Paramount, Cruise and Abrams are currently in the process of choosing a director.

I think I liked the 3rd one the best, followed by the 1st. Although the 2nd one was easy to follow (unlike the 1st) I just didn't like John Woo's directing. Hopefully Cruise will make this one a team effort, and not just centred around Ethan Hunt. I guess it was just at the begining of the 1st movie where we actually got to see the whole IMF team in action, and then after that it was just Ethan Hunt.

Title revealed...

http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/10/28...fficial-title-fourth-mission-impossible-film/

Who knew that Brad Bird and Tom Cruise were going to go all Tom Clancy on us? At a press conference in Dubai about the fourth Mission: Impossible film, director Brad Bird along with stars Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton and producer Bryan Burk answered question in front of a banner that oh so subtly announced the title to the fourth film: Mission: Impossible ? Ghost Protocol. They also revealed that they?ll be doing a lot of filming in Dubai, including on the world?s tallest building, Burj Khalifa. There are a few other nuggets of news after the jump.

Cruise Goes Up High for Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol
Source: The Daily Mail November 3, 2010

Tom Cruise wasn't kidding when he said he would be spending many days on the side of Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest tower at 2,717 feet, for Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol. The Daily Mail has published these photos of Cruise filming a stunt scene on the 124th floor of the tower!

I'm actually looking forward to this...but then that's purely to see what Brad Bird manages to do with an live-action action movie sequel as opposed to an original animated film.

Trailer attached to TF3?

http://thefilmstage.com/2011/06/22/...dtwit&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=wordtwit

Transformers: Dark of the Moon is already getting a brand new Captain America: The First Avenger trailer, but there is an even bigger one attached. I?ve confirmed with sources that the very first trailer for Brad Bird?s Mission: Impossible ? Ghost Protocol will play before Michael Bay?s robot fiesta. I?m waiting on word from Paramount if the scenes shot in IMAX will actually be show in IMAX in the trailer, but it does run 2 minutes and 15 seconds. It is pretty obvious that the studio would attach a trailer for one of their biggest blockbusters to the biggest blockbuster of the year, but it is nice to have confirmation.

im excited. i enjoy the MI movies. 1 was awesome, 2 was good (had some neat scenes that caught my artistic eye), 3 was amazing (especially with PSH playing he bad guy, genius). i have high hopes for 4. the MI movies helped inspire my young mind and imagination while growing up.

As long as it is good like 1 and 3 I'm all for it. I thought part 2 was overdone and cheesy.

John Woo's nauseating use of slo-mo ruined the fluidity of the action sequences.

I'm sure we can expect a teaser trailer very soon.

Am also looking forward to this alot, I found those films very enjoyable in their own. Not so much the second, but it did have its moments - a cracking good fight scene between Cruise and Dougray Scott on the beach at the end, Hans Zimmer's excellent score etc.

M:I2 is one of my least favorite sequels of all time. Its not even just that its a bad movie, it just doesn't fit at all. The only thing it has in common w/ the other films is the title, theme, and character names (because the characters act nothing like they do in the other films). I don't care that Tom Cruise and John Woo wanted to do a stylized film together, but if you're gonna do it make it your own thing instead of soiling the franchise.

Other than that, I'm a fan of the first and third, and am eagerly awaiting to see what Brad Bird sends our way.

I've seen this trailer twice now and I'm impressed.
I thought Tom has been making a modest come back of late with Valkryie and Tropic Thunder. Only Knight&Day really dissapointed at the box office.

I'm fully prepared to try this movie out.

though having Simon Pegg on board is always a plus, the movie Mission teams have never been able to match the cool of the tv teams(n)

Tom Cruise...blech. But hey, one movie a year or less, means less money for Lord Xenu.

I haven't been a fan of ANY of the previous films - even though they were obviously the makings of three very different filmmakers.

However, Brad Bird has more than earned the benefit of the doubt.

Sigh.

I guess I'll have to see it after all.
