Mission: Impossible 4-6

I'm really amazed at how Simon Pegg's stock seems to be rising in Hollywood. He seemed like a niche actor when I first saw him and the last few years he keeps showing up in projects with more and more exposure.

I saw it last night in the IMAX preview screenings, WOW! one of the bets action films in recent memory. Brad Bird GOT IT RIGHT! fans of the De Palma origonal will be pleased because this is the film that really feels like a worthy sequel!

and if possible see it in IMAX, action scenes were fantastic and most importantly they were all fresh. too often we watch action films that seem to recycle the ideas...this was not the case. the entire film i was like WOW I've never seen this before

Huh. I just recently got to know that apparently this film's got a pretty popular Finnish actor playing The Dragon. And the main bad guy's a Swede, apparently.

Hmm, do we see a trend emerging? After all, the Bond reboot Casino Royale's Big Bad was played by a Danish actor... after decades of Russians (and briefly Arabs), the Nordic peoples are the new menace in Hollywood?

Damn. They're on to us.

Very fun movie! This is exactly what this movie shoudl be! Fun, fast lots fo action. If you need a big budget blockbuster to kill 2 hours, this is a great fit.

This movie is entertaining as hell and is the only M:I movie worth a damn. The other three ranged from pointless (3) to outright awful (2).

However, this movie does suffer from the same central problem that the other's had - Ethan Hunt is one of the most bland, generic, poorly-defined action hero of all time.

Think about the best action movies of all time. What they have in common is a great CHARACTER at the center of it all. Great action sequences come in second. The plots seldom really matter.

But it's the characters we fall in love with. Whether it's the suave charm of James Bond or the humor and vulnerability of Indiana Jones or the hangdog everyman-ness of John McClane, those movies, filled with spectacular action sequences, live or die by our affection for their leads.

Ethan Hunt has intensity, sure. And supreme professionalism. But that's about it. And even in a movie as well-crafted as "Ghost Protocol", that only gets you so far.

I enjoyed the hell out of the first hour. But my engagement definitely plateaued for the second half. No matter how well-directed and tense and exciting your movie may be, without a great and endearing hero, you will never achieve true greatness.

Ethan Hunt, sadly, still leaves so much to be desired...

One of the better action flicks I've seen in a while. All of the action is within reason and not overdone to the point of looking or feeling fake. The plot is decent enough to hold interest and is all around well done. Most of the ideas in the movie are very original and they did a great job pulling these ideas off. Good film. Worth the theater cost for sure.

I thought it was very enjoyable, refreshingly light and breezy in an age of dark, gritty Bourne/Bond films (thats not a criticism of those films, which I like alot, its just nice to get a light, fun spy film once in a while).

Where does it rank among the four? Hard to say, while they are all different stylistically, I think they are all of pretty much the same quality.

Except for MI2. Terrible film. (n) Otherwise I agree. :hat:

I agree that MI2 is the weakest, but not hugely so like everyone else. It has a terrific, terrific score by Hans Zimmer, and one of the best fight scenes in movie history. But it has a weak plot and less interesting locales.

What was it about it that everyone hated again? I can't really recall.

Finally got around to seeing this. Brad Bird did one heck of a job, and certainly seems to know his way around a smart action set piece.

Rogue Nation

Hopefully this is the right place to post about the highly profitable sequel trilogy, which scored 94% and 93% so far and for the first time kept the director for a sequel following the shortest gap yet. Even the villain from 5 is coming back. And Mrs. Ethan Hunt. I don't recall Hunt snogging the last two female leads... could it be he's got a secret family like Hawkeye?

Few recent scenes annoyed my more than Harrison Ford's greenscreen helicopter kiddie ride in Expendables 3. Look what could have been with better insurance.
