Wow, a couple of days in and it's turning out to be an exciting tournament -- maybe the U.S. not being in it is a good thing.

Just got home from my son's game and we watched Argentina vs. Iceland. Good stuff. Portugal vs. Spain was good yesterday and tomorrow is Germany vs. Mexico. A lot of good soccer going on in Russia right now.

I love the World Cup but unlucky timing has me at Denver Comic-Con this weekend. Pluses, I've met John Barrowman and David Tennant in autograph lines and got a signed TMNT comic from Kevin Eastman. Minuses, I've missed pretty much all the games. I watched my recording of Spain-Portugal last night and watching Peru-Denmark right now. Kind of looking forward to Monday when I can really start focusing on the tournament. Plus the team of my heritage, who I'm backing since the U.S. are not there, Sweden plays Monday morning.

[Jokingly]If you pick Mexico, don't associate yourself with Landon Donovan who has really shot himself in the foot with a poorly thought through promotion with Wells Fargo.

That said, I enjoy both Mexico and Germany and loved the win by Mexico.

Poland vs. Senegal tomorrow has you written all over it.

I'm just waiting for the Iceland band wagon to kick-in in earnest. Gotta respect that a country of 330,000 people made it to the world cup when big money countries like the U.S. and traditional powerhouses like Italy can't make the cut.

It's subtle and not flashy, but I dig the video for Iceland introducing their team uniforms:

We will probably miss that. My wife?s grand father did play in the 1974 World Cup when Poland finished third.

Landon needs to shut up and go away. ;)

Gotta admit, I really wanted the England-France match-up.

I had seen a little of the U.K. early on and was impressed with their ability to constantly create scoring chances. Very assertive for such a young team. That said, I'm glad for France -- and am just glad that I was not in Paris for the win.

Oh, well. It was not to be. Time to start getting pumped up for the ladies.

France won just as I predicted from the beginning.
Yeah, France vs. England would've been fun to watch, especially because of the rivalry.

People in many places are celebrating, even in Seoul, Korea.
