While there are things I like about Temple, (how can you go wrong with Indiana Jones?), Kasdan says it best:

Lawrence Kasdan, asked to write the script said

"I didn't want to be associated with Temple of Doom. I just thought it was horrible. It's so mean. There's nothing pleasant about it. I think Temple of Doom represents a chaotic period in both their [Lucas and Spielberg] lives, and the movie is very ugly and mean-spirited."

I see no problem with the monkey brains. Cow brains and pig brains are easy enough to buy in the states, especially from mexican market stores. And I used to think eating cold raw meat was unhealthy and gross until I came to Germany were it is common, usually ground up. I am not sure how raw ground up brains would be, but it doesn't seem SO outlandish anymore.

Still, if I actually see it being done (doing a 4 month long archaeological trip about Indonesia for my MA), I'll be sure to take a picture and post it!

That conversation in tod brings allot of depth to the character, I think the way they handled the dinner scene in the novelization more but I never found the scene racist at all without it. It was just much better in the novel.
