The Henry Ford thing wasn't a research thing. Just a simple goof. The actor's last name rather then the character. Good catch. No one else has mentioned it thus far.

I suspect the use of Henry "Ford" Jr. is to ensure they stay as far away from a potential lawsuit as possible.
At the publishing company I work at, we did a parody of one of the Encyclopedia Brown books and received a cease and desist letter from the actual publisher. If we'd called the character Dictionary Blue, we would have been okay.
