So now the story is about the hat? I get a feeling you're not very serious here... Passing it on to Short Round? Son of Mutt? Glad you're not in the writing chair, if you don't mind me saying so.
LOL – They are a funny lot here.

But, but. . .drinking from the Grail is useless when one passes the Great Seal. And, I know that I am alone in saying this; but if Henry Jones Sr. comes back for part five. I may just wait for the DVD besides seeing it the first day in theaters.
If I were playing the devils advocate, I’d say I’m not sure that’s specifically true. Henry Jones Senior’s gunshot would/should have re-opened as soon as he left the temple (if the Grails powers only work within). My reading would be, if you drink from the Grail in the temple, its attributes remain (although diminish over time). So as both Indy and Henry Jones Senior drank from the Grail inside the temple, they benefit from its effects outside too (I admit I’m reaching here).

They could explain anything they want to if it serves the purposes of the story at hand - they've proven happy to do so in the past. That doesn't make it "clever." It's clear that whatever happened to him, Indiana Jones thinks that his father is dead in Indy4, and that loss is exploited by the film. Therefore, if Indy5 tells us that Henry didn't really die, then it's still a cheat, however an understandable or forgivable one somebody might find it. Like you, I'll reserve judgment until seeing the execution.
Yep - They can more or less justify any plot point. But, if they wrote KOTCS that way specifically to re-introduce the character/plot point in Indy V, then I think that would constitute some form of “cleverness” on their part (although that doesn’t automatically mean it will work “on screen”). However, I would be more inclined to think that it’s just plain serendipity as opposed to some “big plan” on Lucas'/Spielberg's part (unless they state otherwise).

True. Kasdan has always said he left the door open for Abner's return, even though Marion flatly states,
"Abner's dead."
(Personally, I hope the rumors are just that, and Indy 5 cameos are kept to a minimum.)
Agreed. The return of Henry Jones Senior/Abner is not on my wish list (although another family character is somewhat inevitable). But I think it’s fun to speculate on how dialogue can be twisted/interpreted to allow a possible return.
