I always knew the flag was merely part of an establishing shot. I thought everyone knew that. I mean, geez, how many movies have you seen where they use something like that. It's the same as if they started on a sign that said "military base" and panned up to reveal soldiers running around on the base.
I just thought it was lame they cut it out of the international version (which they did folks, it was not added)... seemingly for political reasons and nothing else.
