Marion: "Well god-damnit Indy, where doesn't it hurt?"
Indy: "I'm in my 70's... there ain't a place I'm not hurting honey. And just so you don't get your hopes up, 'little Indy' ain't comin' out to play. I've been impotent these past 10 years... drinking from the Grail did nothing to re-light those fires babe".

My god... Is that dialogue from Indiana Jones and the Viagra Pill of Rejuvenation!?

"Marion, there's a lot of mileage on the clock. And the years aren't helping either."

If such a scene had been in KOTCS Mutt would invariably have walked in on them and been 'grossed out'.

Please, Lucas et al, don't even consider this an option if you ever get around to doing #5!

I don't think it's likely Indy 5 will get made, at least not with Harrison Ford as Indy. He really is too old now - he was pushing it big time in 4 and it'll be ridiculous to cast him in an stunt'n'action-driven blockbuster when he's 70. There's past it and there's so far down the road you can't see it any more.

Funny thing happened to me yesterday on the tube train on the way home from work. Here in UK, they've been screening the Indy films on terrestrial tv over last couple of weeks. Temple of Doom was on the the other night. Now, I'm sitting on the tube last night, minding my business when I overhear two young people chatting about Indiana Jones. So I focus in, and the girl is talking about watching Temple of Doom with her family and loving it, being really entertained. She starts telling the bloke she's with that the special effects were rubbish compared to the latest one but it was really really entertaining and they got swept up in the story. Then the guy starts laughing about how bad the recent one (Indy 4) was, and the girl's saying "Yeah, he was soooo old and it just didn't work" and they're both giggling about how 'whack' (see http://onlineslangdictionary.com/definition+of/whack) the film was.

So the way I see it is this - Lucas, Spielberg and Ford either make an Indy 5 for the sole reason that it makes Indy 4 look better by comparison, or they just throw in the towel. The original trilogy were entertaining romps with a good looking action hero in his prime. You can't replicate that spirit with a 70 year old traipsing through a bunch of computer graphics trying to find something that nobody understands in the first place.

I believe you can replicate the spirit of the first three with Harrison as Indiana Jones, but surely not with Mutt "Shia" as his sidekick or with old Marion "Karen". Much more easyer it would work with a young girl - maybe Indy's daughter. (Not familiar to us because born after LC (in the late 50th 18 years old) and well known by Indy, because not before she was a teenager, daddy's girl became that runaway...) ;) WAKA WAKA!

George Lucas is working on a gem of an idea, and if it produces a good result, I'm sure we'll all be happy to do another
Oh now this is just getting ridiculous. The wording of this is so similar to previous quotes that I was at first suspicious that this was rehashing an older Quote from a different interview.
Jan 10, 2010:
George is working on an idea now. If George and Steven and I can all agree on it I'd be happy to do it again.
Jan 20, 2010:
George Lucas is working on a new idea. If it bears fruit and Steven Spielberg and I both respond to it, I'd be happy to do it.
Feb 24, 2010:
Steven and George and I are sort of agreed on a germ of an idea and we're seeing what comes of it.

Just to name a few.

Hearing poor Ford having to basically say the same thing over and over again in response to the same question over and over again is like watching an army POW endlessly recite his unit, rank, and serial number in response to an interrogator's queries about military secrets. Someone ought ought re-dub that TOD blooper video of Striesand whipping him with audio from these interviews.

Who knows, but maybe George will use a little CGI to make Harrison look younger in Indy 5. This technology was used for the last X-men film and in Tron.

Harrison was asked about dying his hair for Skull and said no. I don't think they're going to digitally erase any years...

Give te public:
- a prequel
- indy looking younger, but NOT in CGI
- no family, no mutts
- wit-filled, sarcasm-ridden, ol'fashion'd adventure
- a widely recognizable (un)believable artifact, possibly religious
- lots of whip-cracking, horse riding, incredible escapes
- a whole lotta of REALLY badass enemies.

and you get yourself a masterpiece.
Then you can go on and have Mutt his little adventures set in the late 60s, he can even wear a baseball hat, for what I care, but no family ties, let's put the indi back in indiana :D

That would be a dream come true for me. We could have a great stand alone film, and could lead the way to a second trilogy, and opportunity to tie up any loose ends (Sallah, Abner, whoever remains unaccounted for in the prequel) with a 6th, which would round things out nicely. I have serious doubts that Lucas has it in him to pound out 2 more within Ford's life, which confounds me to no end. I can't believe that there wasn't more of a solid plan for more films after opening up pandora's box with KOTCS. I mean, on some level they had to have hoped that KOTCS was going to be more revered than it was and that there would be a huge desire for more. 19 years and KOTCS was the ONLY idea that was given serious consideration?

Did they really put all of their eggs in one basket?

Who knows how Lucas thinks? They seemed keen to get an Indy 4 going back in the 90s, but something held them back. It won't be surprising if that same force slows down or prevents the next one coming out. The world wants more Indiana Jones for sure, but Lucas wants to dish it out only a little, if at all, at a time.

Against reason, I am still hoping for an Indy 5 and 6 and reboots or whatever after that. When it's done well you can't get enough of it. I'm ready to forgive the failures of KotCS and look forward to a return to the standards that exemplified the originals.

The latest principal photography could start for a summer 2012 release would be about mid-July of this year or around Harrison Ford's 69th birthday. We are only six months away from that, praying for earth shattering news any day now because each year that passes lessens the chance of Indy5 happening.

The problem is that the world has moved on (as uncomfortable as that may be). Regardless of KOTCS merits or shortfalls, another Indy movie featuring Harrison Ford and directed by Spielberg is going to fall short. They are both past their prime (as far as being the star of and the director of a trail blazing action movie). For me, there are only two Indy movies that are really worthy of accolade; those being Raiders and TLC (at a push). For what it's worth, I think the character of Indiana Jones, and Harrison Ford's portrayal, belies the actual quality of the franchise i.e. one classic and 3 fair to average sequels.

I'd love to be proven wrong as far as a 5th movie is concerned, but my view would be re-boot the franchise or kill it off now and move on to other things.

We'll never get another ROTLA, of that is there no doubt. But the potential for another film that could at least have the great pacing, humor and action that LC had is enough to make me want more. Get a writer that can actually write good dialogue and humor, and let Indy get dinged up a little more, I could see it. Ford may be older, but he's far from a feeble old man in a walker wheezing his way through KOTCS. I wouldn't want him swinging at me! There's a way to make a good autumn year Indy film, it's not impossible at all. I just want to see it. ;)

It's not impossible, just highly unlikely and only bound to disappoint. If Ford has got another movie in him playing a 'tough guy'/action hero, then perhaps Ford's last hurrah should be in the guise of a different character within a different movie (rather than a septuagenarian Indiana Jones). Similar to Clint Eastwood, I'd rather see Clint playing an aged Walt Kowalski than crowbarring the same themes/subject matter into the 'Dirty Harry' character. 'Gran Torino', for example, has infinitely more to say about life/death and relationships than KOTCS or any other potential Indy movie could... and that's the dilemma... as much as I love the character of Indiana Jones, I don't think the character has anything else to offer on the big screen (probably since TOD if we were being honest).

Again... I'm happy to be proven wrong. :)
