Inspired by this site, and knowing what a large influence this movie had on the creation of Indiana Jones, I had been looking for this movie for a long time, and was quite happy when I finally found the DVD. Sat and watched it last night together with my girlfriend.

What struck me immediately, and trying not to give any spoilers here, was how dark this movie actually was. It shows some of the horrors of war as they really are. Considering the movie was released during WW2 I expected some anti Japanese sentiments, but again I did not expect the movie to be this grim.

The opening scene also deserves to be mentioned . A beautiful one shot following William Bendix as he runs though the streets while around him people are fleeing and buildings explode. Truly magnificent cinema.
