Little things you notice about the movies

I thought I'd start a thread about little details or errors or whatever you have happened to notice while watching the trilogy. I'll star with some things I noticed,

The same corpse prop used as Forrestal looks like the same one int the Well of Souls that has the snake in its mouth.

Traps often reset themselves before either traping Indy or killing him, (rock crusher, spikes, spike room door, capuchan temple door, etc)

In TOD when the kids about to get whipped and then it shows Indy standing there, you see he's wearing his satchel bag is on the wrong side before it eventually magicly apearing on the other side

And the noise you hear when of Lao Che's son shoots that gong is the same noise in Revenge of The Sith when obi wan hits General Greviouses tire thing with the electro staff

What all have you noticed?

This only applies to the Italian version.

When the Sultan says to Donovan: You shall have camels, horses, an
armed escort, provisions, desert vehicles, and tanks.
Donovan says "you're welcome", in a joke where the phonetics of "tanks" are the same of "thanks", so he politely responds.

This joke works of course only in English, or (I don't know any) for any language whose aknowledgment of gratidude sounds like the panzer military vehicle.

In Italian it has been changed in : "potete avere cammelli, cavalli, una scorta armata [...] e carro tanke."
Donovan replies "bitte", as he understood "tanke" like "dankeshen" (thanks in German), so he replies with the German "you're welcome", bitte. In Italian it works because the form "bitte" is well known to most people (while "you're welcome" is known just by who knows English at least a little), and also works narratively being Donovan affiliated with Nazis.

Heh. That wasn't meant as a joke in English. He was saying "You're welcome" because all the equipment the Sultan had just given him was an act of gratitude for a simple car.

It's "danke" in German and "dankeshen" is spelled "Danke Schoen," which is, in itself, a deviation of "Danke schön."
Also, ResidentAlien is right about the inside joke.

Anyway, as for my trilogy errors, I've always hated that when Vogel's tank hits the ground after falling off the cliff, the biggest turret falls off the tank body. But, when we see the tank rolling down the the bottom of the cliff in the next clip, the turret is back on the tank body. But that was just an editing error.

I believe that was a joke, in the script you can read tanks, and not thanks :)
If it wasn't meant to be a joke you would have read thanks, with the h.

Also, there would have been no point in adding the joke in the translation, but to respect the jokes economy of the original, they had to have Donovan say "bitte", otherwise the line would have been a classic "Grazie-Prego".

Weird I never noticed that. I didn't notice the dummy or whatever they used as Vogel when the tank was rolling on the ground, the dummys arms were like stuck to the tank.

4.3 litre, 30 horsepower, six cylinder engine, with Stromberg downdraft carburetor, can go from zero to 100 kilometres an hour in 12.5 seconds. And I even like the color. ;)

I'm aware. But no army is worth any car. That was my point.
Well, for a selfish Sultan, maybe it was worth it. (That's one schnazzy car!)
His donations toward the expedition can't exactly be categorized as an army.

2 Volkswagens
2 troop trucks
1 20 year old tank
1 cavalry escort (1/2 dozen on camels + 1/2 dozen on horseback)
(All the other men were German troops under Col. Vogel.)

The fact that there was only 1 tank makes me think the "tanks" line was intended as a joke.
I'd never noticed it before but, watching the scene again, if you see J.Glover's subtle delivery...
I think Yure is right! Cool!

One thing of note is that Donovan's gratitude was not just for the "army" but for permission
to enter the country & leave with the Grail.

the only thing that always bothered me is the impossible satchel/strap thing with hanging from the tank and climbing back up on it... :) everyone knows that one i guess :)

You guys DO get that the whole "You're welcome" thing was just a joke because of how much the Sultan was willing to give for a car right? They had brought all these riches but the Sultan has plenty, he'd rather have the car.

I've always thought "tanks" = "thanks," but the car thing works too. Both might be right.
Absolutely. Donovan is obviously saying "You're welcome." regarding the car. The "tanks" line is a bit of witty screenwriting
and not the last word the Sultan says just by coincidence. Never noticed the joke before but now it's clear as day.

One blot during the truck chase: when the camera is in the car with Belloq looking back at Indy hanging from the truck-front, in two similar shots you can see him sitting on a harness. Grrrr...

I think thats just a coincidence.

The joke is that Donovan says "You're welcome" instead of "Thank you", making a witty reference to the fact that the Sultan is pretty much the one saying thank you.

I think the fact that he says "tanks" last and that sounds like "thanks" is just a coincidence and not an added layer to the joke.

Perhaps, perhaps, as written, that is what was intended, although I'm still rather skeptical. Glover's delivery makes quite clear to me that it's a pun on the similar sound of "thanks" and "tanks." As someone above has noted, there's only one tank used, but two or more are mentioned. The joke is the only good reason for that.

Yeah but analyze the comic timings of that sequence. The peak is at the exact moment when the Sultan says, with a great emphasis, "Rolls Royce Phanton II!". The tank line adds depth 'cause Donovan is so full of himself that doens't understand that the Sultan is merely numbering supplies and not actually thanking him.

And I true believe is not a coincidence but a precise wit, as confirmed by the script, that concludes very soon as the tank is introduced with a great tele shot that reveals the beast.
