I SO support this idea.
I love Indy, love Ford as Indy. Raiders is the best movie ever made and is responsible for me getting into the creative field in which I currently work. It changed my life- for the better.
But the reality is, Indy needs to continue. And with the current keepers of the grail, it just isn't going to happen...at least not at the level of respect the franchise deserves. And darn it, the Indy universe and Indy character deserves the same longevity of Bond and Star Trek.
If the flick is cast well, we'll not only get used to the new Indy, but be happy- I feel. Because this young Indy will be able to be back in the 1930's and 1940's (does anyone REALLY like the 50's setting more?) and he'll be young enough to kick some ass and be the Indy we know and love. And hey, we get Marcus back as a character, we get Indy's dad back too!
I think Ford is past his prime for Indy and while we're at it, so is Lucas and so is Spielberg (much as I am a fan of his, it's clear he has moved on artistically and no longer feels the passion for the world of Indy).
Why NOT get an actor who is more aged to the part and why not get a creative time which- while perhaps answering to Lucas/Spielberg at an exec producer level- is hungry and fresh and passionate? As true Indy fans, to me it seems that that would be what we would feel pays the most respect to our beloved franchise. Not keeping a bunch of past their prime players on the field simply for the sake of nostalgia.

ps. on a total tangent- has anyone noticed- and been annoyed like I have- that ALL of the Indy print materials that have been published since KOTCS hit refer to Indy as DR. HENRY JONES JR.?!? I mean, what the HELL is up with Lucas?!? First he changes the titles of the movies (at least Raiders) and now he's trying to get us to see the character name as HENRY JONES JR. vs. INDIANA? I think the man honestly has a true dislike for his fan base...like he resents and mocks us and feels we're all fools. And I've met the guy, he's a bit of a jerk, truth be told. So I could actually see this being the reason. But then again, maybe I'm reading too much into it.
But still, am I the only one to notice this?
