Indiana Jones and the City of the Gods Q & A

I recently got my hands on the Indiana Jones and the City of the Gods script (Darabont's draft). I just finished it, so if anyone has any questions, feel free to ask away.:gun:

Daring Dragoon, can you give a basic outline of the story as present in Darabont's draft? I imagine that would be a good place to start, and informative for most of us.

How is it compared to KOTCS?

Much, much better, and I enjoyed KOTCS.

The story starts out with the chase in the warehouse, and yes even the fridge scene. The villian is a man named Yuri who was Indy's partner but is really a Russian agent.

Indy is fired from the university and is being chased by the Russians. He discovers that they are looking for the Lost City of the Gods and they must bring the final Crystal Skull to the City. They are also working with Marion and her new husband who is another archeologist.

Indy gets his hands on the Crystal Skull, rescues Marion and tries to stop the Russians from finding the City.

I thought the villains were leftover Nazis?

They were. Darabount has confirmed as much I thought. This also doesn't sound much different than KotCS. Was Marion's husband Indy's long lost brother or something? KotCS had Mutt Williams which many fans will attest being a great addition to the franchise, whether he is Indy's son or not.

Later in the script, a nazi shows up. He is not the main villian though. He is very reminiscent of Irena.

No, Marion's husband is not Indy's brother. Sort of a rival archeologist.

How many women does Indy punch in the face? I hate KoCS cos he doesnt even get to punch Cate Blanchett in the cake hole. Whats the deal?

None. I too wanted to see Indy punch Irena square in the jaw.

Yes, I thought it was odd Indy never really tackled Irina, he worked with her, which I did like (not especially out of wanting to though). I guess the nearest we got to Indy battling Irina, was when he shoved her out of the jeep in to them crates in the warehouse - that made me laugh!

Here's a great bit of dialogue between Indy and Henry Sr.

HENRY
Indiana, stop!
(advances, furious)
These charges of treason outrage me
to the marrow of my bones! They're
a disgrace to everything we hold
dear! You must stay and fight, son!
You mustn't run away!

INDY
No? Watch me.

Beat. Henry stuns Indy with a hard slap.

HENRY
It appears there's a reason you're
named after the dog.

Well,
after all this year of plot rumours, and after seeing the real movie, I can't believe everything that is written here for sure...
But this dialogue bit... seems plausible, lol.

And aside the joke, it means they were really thinking in Connery, and they were taking the "Indy as a communist" plotline a little bit further than in KOTCS.
Interesting

And how does the story end? Wedding?

What happens at the end? Is there anything like Irina's killer stream of knowledge that the main enemy dies because of?

Yes, but it is the nazi, and it is much cooler.

VON GRAUEN
(screaming, ecstatic)
I want the dream reborn! I want the
glory we created...

The vapor of Von Grauen's wish takes final shape, the face
of the alien flowing like smoke and re-forming into the
glorious, smiling visage of Adolph Hitler himself...

ALIEN VOICES
VERY WELL. YOU SHALL HAVE THE GLORY
YOU CREATED.

...and Hitler's smile becomes the toothy grimace of a leering,
demonic skull: Von Grauen starts SCREAMING as Der Fuhrer's
ectoplasmic hand forms a vicious talon that reaches out, sinks
into Von Grauen's disgusting black heart, and sucks the life
force right out of him in a crunch of collapsing bones...

My... that sounds kind of cool.
