James Bond

What surprises me is to see TWINE that high.

Okay, perhaps it would be in the top half, but Denise Richards just ruins that one for me. Can't stand the character. Having a twentysomething nuclear physicist in a tank top just felt like jumping the shark... even for a series that's detached from reality anyway.

I'll admit that I might tend to overrate TWINE, but I think it's because that's the first Bond movie I saw in the theaters and it got me hooked on 007. I'll admit that Denise Richards was badly miscast (although she looked incredible).

However, I think the character of Elektra is very good and is played extremely well by Sophie Marceau, the action in the film is excellent (even though the caviar factory scene is somewhat pointless), the opening escape from the banker's office in Spain is outstanding, Robbie Coltrane is a joy in a more extended appearance as Zukovsky, and I think Brosnan gives his best performance as Bond here.

Maybe it shouldn't be top 5, but even objectively I wouldn't drop it out of the top 10.

I don't think I've seen either The World Is Not Enough or Die Another Day in their entirety. Just bits and pieces on TV. Aside from Halle Berry, they didn't look too good. The plots became downright stupid - as opposed to wacky - at that point. Which one features the invisible car?!

That would be Die Another Day. What's funny is, the invisible car idea is actually one that was being developed at the time and may soon be used by the military. But people rarely gripe about the thing that I thought was really stupid with the invisibility thing. During the chase scene the cloaking system stops working, but then it REPAIRS ITSELF! I mean, didn't they think that the invisible car was going to be hard enough to accept?

Personally, I think Die Another Day was like two different movies. Up until Bond goes to Graves' ice palace it was a great, gritty, dramatic movie, and then it turned into a ridiculous over the top action movie. I didn't think Halle Berry was even that good in it, besides being seriously beautiful. TWINE is twice the movie DAD is, imo.

Agentsands, it's hard to evaluate your statement that TWINE is the worst Bond movie when you give no reasons for it. But I don't know how anyone could think that any Bond movie is worse than Moonraker.

There is no Bond film that is more sincerely dull than THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH, which is ruined by atrocious performances and dramatic posturing without any integrity. It's all terribly naff, and succeeds at nothing. Even the action is at an all-time low for Bond.

MOONRAKER might be outlandish and absurd, but it's vibrant, with some beautiful locations, and has some amusing sequences. If you take it as the silly entertainment that it is, it's a fun campy ride.

Ha ha ha! Yeah, that line was not exactly a high point in the Bond series. I just never bought into the character of Jinx and how she fit the movie. There is no question that the scene where Halle Berry comes out of the water in that bikini is the stuff dreams are made of, but I guess I expected more from an Academy Award-winning actress than another hot Bond girl who looks terrific but whose character has no real depth.

I liked Moonraker solely for Lois Chiles. The rest was okay for me.

The worst Bond was film was Die Another Day. I thought it was awful. Another one that I disliked immensely was License to Kill. My top five would probably be:

1. Goldfinger
2. The Spy Who Loved Me
3. Dr. No
4. Thunderball
5. For Your Eyes Only

If you would have told me after Goldeneye came out that Pierce would eventually make a Bond film worse than anything to come out of Roger Moore, I would have smacked you around.

DAD...*shudder*

The only Brosnan Bond film I really like is Goldeneye. All the others I don't care for all too much, especially Die Another Day. And theres only a few Roger Moore films I really like, most of them being too goofy for my tastes in Bond films (although they're still fun to watch). I think like the Connery and Craig films the most, perhaps because they're the most realistic.

Bond is a very interesting franchise. Each film tends to be very polarizing. I've done a lot of reading about it and have tried to understand different viewpoints about all the movies, and what amazes me is that two people could agree on half of the movies and have completely opposing opinions on the other half. I can understand the reasons people like or dislike any given Bond film - they have never made a perfect one.

Any fans of the 007 franchise around these parts?
Yup, right here.

Which actor's portrayal of Bond did you like best?
Hmmm... not sure

Which are your particularly favourite Bond film/s?
My fave is constantly changing but I know the ones I like from the ones I dislike ;)
Here are some of my fave's though: From Russia With Love, Thunderball, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Octo*****, The Living Daylights, Goldeneye, Casino Royale & Quantum of Solace

What did you think of Casino Royale?
It beats Brosnan :)
Probably in my top 5

Are you interested in Bond 22? (The next film)
Yes but it isn't the next film (unless you're talking about the DVD ;))

Any fans of the 007 franchise around these parts?

NO U.

Which actor's portrayal of Bond did you like best?

It's a tie between Dalton & Connery. Brosnan's portrayal was too cheesy; it feels like a parody almost. Dalton's was as on the money as Craig's, it's just the whole 80s thing that brings it down.

Which are your particularly favourite Bond film/s?

License to Kill, Moonraker, The World Is Not Enough, Goldfinger, The Living Daylights, and Doctor No.

What did you think of Casino Royale?

It had a really good theme, and the opening scene was adrenaline pumping. (Shame the rest of the film couldn't keep up the pace.) It had a decent amount of finger sucking, though, and I approve of that. Testicular torture too.

Are you interested in Bond 22? (The next film)

Not really.

Any fans of the 007 franchise around these parts?

Definitely! I'm a big 007 fan and it's my second-favorite franchise (Indy being first, of course).:)

Which actor's portrayal of Bond did you like best?

Connery is my favorite but in all honesty I've enjoyed all six Bonds. Each actor has brought something fresh and different to the role. Connery just has a certain cool and charisma that puts him in first place for me.

Which are your particularly favourite Bond film/s?

Goldfinger is my favorite. The rest of my top ten is: Dr. No, The Spy Who Loved Me, Goldeneye, Casino Royale, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Thunderball, From Russia with Love, The Man with the Golden Gun, and Licence to Kill. Some are better than others but I think there's something good in every Bond film and I can watch any one at any time and feel satisfied.

What did you think of Casino Royale?

I thought it was excellent.

Are you interested in Bond 22? (The next film)

I liked Quantum of Solace and I'm anxious to see where Bond 23 will go, although it looks like we may have to wait awhile for it.

I have to say, I've really come to love Diamonds are Forever. I think it could well be the best '70s Bond film.

OHMSS - like Lanzenby, too bad he did only 1, cant really see how he would devlope

Goldfinger/Casino R. next

Thunderball
Live and Let Die
Diamonds are forever
you only live twice\

after that they are all equal to me.

Now if you want to talk about Action flicks better than Bond, lets talk Jason Bourne!

I still stand by this. I think the idea of watching a Bond movie is soemtimes better than actually watching a Bond movie. Each has a few bright spots, then some ok parts and a lot of junk. I would add Man with the Golden Gun as one of the better. It will be interesting to see what happens with the next generation of Bourne

Speaking of changes, Baccarat is Bond's card game of choice. I wonder if those same fans were angry that the game in "Casino Royale" was changed from Baccarat to Texas Hold 'Em poker!(n)

I'm actually sad to think that it's not the Tempest Style game

I wanted to post the clip of James Bond escorting the Queen to the Olympics, but all the clips have been pulled off Youtube. :(
