German Notgeld paper money, General Emil von Lettow-Vorbeck

I have collected coins off and on since the 1960's, and sometimes paper money.
Holding old coins sometimes gives one a sense of history.

I have this German Notgeld note issued in 1921 by the city of Berlin.

Notgeld was emergency money (paper and coins) issued by various parts
of Germany after World War I.

This note features General Paul Emil von Lettow-Vorbeck of the East African
theater of World War I, who was prominently featured in the
"The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles" episode "The Phantom Train of Doom".

"v.Lettow-Vorbeck" is Paul Emil von Lettow-Vorbeck.

I understand exactly what you mean. I've collected (or rather kept) a mixture of odd 'artifacts' over the years, including a few coins, and while they probably have little intrinsic value, they evoke a great sense of history when you wonder where they've been, and who held them.

The Notgeld note is a very interesting find. With reference to emergency, inflation era money, I have a collection of German stamps with various increases in price stamped on them.

I have nothing from German East Africa, only a couple of coins from British West Africa.
