Just bought a fedora from Disney

Well I finally did it. I told myself I would never buy a fedora from Disney and Tonight I did. With all the Indy excitement going on I had to get one to just kick around in. The material is very stiff. It says 100% wool. I don't know how this compares to more authentic hats, but I like it. It feels like it could take a little abuse and still keep it's shape. For only 48 bucks I thought it was a good deal to wear around and not have to worry about anything happening to it since it was so cheap. I can't post pics just yet cuz it is a Christmas gift to myself and I want to be surprised when I open it.;) Anybody out there with a little expertise with Fedoras know how to reshape the brim?

Personally, I wouldn't fool with wool-- I'd just wear it as it is-- unless you wouldm't mind looking like Ed Norton in The Honeymooners. You probably couldn't get the new shape to hold properly without using steam, which could easily shrink your hat-- much more easily than with fur felt.

You can always have a fur felt hat reblocked, but once a wool felt hat is ruined, there's nothing that can be done to fix it. Reshaping has been done successfully, though; but to me, the risk is not worth the better-than-average chance of losing a $50 hat before its time.

I bought one of those Disney fedoras several years ago when I was at Disneyland. I don't really wear it (though I did all day long at DL), but it makes a nice display piece. It's really not a bad hat for the price.

I hear people say Disney, are they referring to the DP fedoras? I have the "nicer" Fur Felt version. Its not half bad but has plenty of flaws if your going for accuracy. Its got a nice Satin Lining and an alright shape in the brim, but the crown is short and not pinched enough in the front. It looks closest to a TOD style. Like people said a tgood display piece, but i wouldnt wear the wool version (or either version) out much, its not going to take a beating well.

We bought a WDW one recently, I'm assuming DL and WDW sell the same ones. We got ours so that my husband or I could wear it to the midnight showing of Indy 4. We're going to make costumes. Not really sure which ones though, kind of too early for that sort of thing. But I did buy a blond curly wig in case I want to go as Willie. :hat:

The fedora fits my husband better though. I have a small head.

@Deckard What is a DP Fedora? As far as mine goes it is fairly stiff, I knew when I bought it it wasn't accurate. I was just looking for something to bum around in. The lining appears to be white satin, with a gold emblem. I'll probably wear it to the premiere like nezobiwan.

DP - Dorfman Pacific. They make two style hats a wool felt and fur felt. The fur is the more expensive and is probably the stiffer version. I looked into a bit more and its the same kind Disney sells, i guess at the stunt show/rides. Its been years since i got out to disney. Im 21 so we like to goto Universal for the roller coasters but i do remember seeing the stunt show when i was younger. I wanted a leather jacket but my dad bought me one of those old metal pump rifles since it was cheaper. (I was like 8 so i probably wouldnt have even fit in one of the jackets.)

A DP wool can be reshaped - my first fed was a DP and I was able to get rid of the teardrop in favor of the SA center dent. It actually ended up looking like the LC Castle Brunwald hat. However it was a real roll of the dice and unless you do some research first on how to reshape a wool hat I would say you're taking a chance.

I have both versions of the Dorfman Pacific (Wool and Fur Felt). Truth is, the wool version is not really the greatest fedora ever. It's really stiff and isn't very reshaping-friendly. It sort of skims the looks of the LC fedora, but it looks more like it was pressed by a machine instead.

The DP Fur-Felt fedora is AWESOME. I love it. It's so easy to reshape, and looks great. It has the Last Crusade look to it. Not only that, but for a 100 bucks or so, it's really well made. The details on the hat are very good. A cool feature, it has an authentic Indiana jones logo within the inside of the hat, but better, it has a tough plastic sheet protecting the logo from any type mess.

I'll make sure to post some pictures for compare and contrast on both DP fedoras in a little bit

Did you just get that? It looks alot differant then mine. You've got a nice tight Raiders pinch and slightly differant Satin design. Did you re-bash the crown or something?

Yes that is slightly different than mine as well. It looks like a little higher quality, yours I mean. Mine has the logo inside with the Indiana Jones on the sweat band. There is no white ribbon however. Where and when did you get yours?

I got this fedora at some random hat shop during my trip to New Orleans this past august. Can't really tell you what's the name of the store since, I have no clue. There was something very interesting though that the hat shop dealer told me. He said that the Dorfman Pacific company no longer fabricates the fedoras in the USA. They've moved it overseas now. He said that the USA versions are much more richer in quality and are more "street-wise" than the others. The one from the photos is a USA version.
So that is also a major aspect to the hat.

If you dont mind my asking can you ballpark what you payed for that? I payed $90 for mine on ebay, it actualy sells for closer to $120. If this one is around that price too, i may try to pick one up.
