In a world first interview, Official IndyCast correspondent Mitch Hallock speaks with Jock Lindsey himself - Raiders actor and pilot Fred Sorenson,...
Firstly, Ed, I love the icon for this episode. It's perfect for this IndyCast exclusive!(y)

Secondly, thank you to newcomer, Clinton Mills, for providing F. Sorenson's contact info.:hat:

Thirdly, GREAT interview Mitch! What a rarity and it was cool to hear Fred`s anecdotes about filming his scene, especially using the styrofoam statue to help float the damaged plane. Nice job all around, though I had to laugh when you asked if Constellation flying was piloting using stars to navigate!:D As you now know, the Constellation is a classic in the aviation world.;)

Great interview, I wonder if he knows about his likeness in the Tomb of the Gods comic. I think he was depicted in the Marvel comics too.
Indeed, Jock is in a couple of Marvel comics. In addition, someone should let Fred know that his likeness was also immortalized in an AMAZING, custom 12-inch figure & diorama by mfisher of Tennessee: Custom 1/6 JOCK the PILOT

I just was emailing Mr. Sorenson yesterday. I will have to pass along links to all this Jock homages - he will really get a kick out if them. At Stoo, yes know I know what he was saying. He also told me about his favorite plane to fly. It was designed by the fella who went on to make the lear jet. He also talked about flying Jimmy Buffet's band around for three years. And how they were the most professional group he's ever dealt with.

What I'd like to know is: Which years did Fred Sorenson fly with Jimmy Buffet and did he ever stop in Bangor, Maine with Buffet's entourage?

The reason I ask is because: One of my best friends owns a rare, Russian trainer, a Yak-52. (The paintjob looks exactly like this, except the silver parts are white):

About 10 years ago, we were enroute (from Plattsburgh, NY) to the Boston area to have my buddie's parachutes re-folded by an expert and we stopped at a small airfield in Bangor, Maine, to refuel. My friend's plane was a BIG HIT with the locals and SOMEONE from Buffet's crew was very excited and wanted to check it out. The guy pointed to Jimmy Buffet's Learjet on the field that he was supposedly flying. We talked...he was cool...

What I want to know is, was this Fred Sorenson?

Just realized our Bangor stop was NOT enroute to Boston...D'uh! (Pankot is not on the way to Delhi!). Our trip was to Eastport, Maine to do whale-watching from the air (which was a success)! Eastport is pretty much the most eastern tip of the U.S.

This would've been c.1999 so I'd love to know if Fred Sorenson was flying Buffet around at that time...

That said, the premiere of the Indy Exhibit in Montreal is 1 week away. I guess Ed's interview with Kim Belair didn't work out?:(

Another solid episode, Ed. Nice little surprise at the very end too with Pat. ;)

Just a thought, but a nice idea for a show, especially with the 30th anniversary of Raiders coming up would be to have the main contributors of the show do a live commentary of Raiders. I'd imagine that would be a BLAST to listen to!

Keep up the good work!

edit:
@Episode 127, I'm extremely ENVIOUS of you Laird! Meeting John Williams like that, and being at that ceremony with Spielberg and Lucas. Must have been amazing!

Thanks Michael! We actually are already working on a roundtable with all the crew talking about Raiders - but a commentary with the Pal/NTSC issues may be problematic!
