I can't wait for this film!! Daniel Craig was the best thing to happen to that tired franchise. After seeing him in Layer Cake I knew he would make a badass Bond. I just hope they keep it gritty and follow the Bourne films in tone again, and that they don't start getting campy like Craig unfortunately alluded to in a recent interview. They gained so much ground and made Bond cool again, it would be a shame to go the Austin Powers route.

until i saw the set photo, i had no idea they were filming yet either. apparently they're in siena, italy, filming a scene at the "'Madonna dell'Assunta Palio di Siena' traditional horse race"

I rather like the Bond films.

I hope this one is as good as Casino Royale.

i wonder if there will be any gadgets in it though. those are fun, but they do not a bond film make.

Bond is great and it even made the English cool . . .kinda . . .

The last bond was awesome and I still enjoy seeing it. I agree I hope they keep it raw.

The Palio di Siena takes place every July 2 and August 16, so they had to film now. I hope they stage their own race: "On the dangerous steeply-canted track, the riders are allowed to use their whips not only for their own horse, but also for disturbing other horses and riders." So what's with the 60's home movie camera? Are they going back in time?

By the way, Ian Fleming's short story 'Risico' takes place in Italy.

there were some rumors of this movie being based on that short story, but they were "debunked"...or were they?

I am one of the few who wasn't in love with Casino Royale. I liked the grittier style of Bond, but I just didn't think the film was all that great (amazing action sequences, though). But the villain had an inhaler! The Bond girls were fairly attractive, the one who get killed after a five minute appearance being the best looking one (that was a disappointment when she died).

Perhaps because the first film I saw Daniel Craig in was Infamous, a film where he plays Truman Capote's gay lover, my image of Bond is now a little tarnished.

She is attractive, but I didn't find her to be the most beautiful Bond girl. She was a little too pale for me. My top five would be:
Domino Dervall
Dr. Christmas Jones (stupid character, but Denise Richards is gorgeous)
Miss Galore
Xania Onatopp
Stacey Sutton

But not to get off track, I wonder who will be the Bond girl this time around. They really couldn't get a big star, which isn't bad, but when Charlize Theron, Angelina Jolie, Rachel McAdams, and a slew of others turn down a character like Vesper, a type of ambigious good/evil character most actresses would want to play, it probably means we won't be getting A-listers for a while. That may be just what the series needs, to get back to its roots.

Great interview with Paul Haggis:

Paul Haggis Talks Bond 22
Source: Steven Chupnick
August 25, 2007

Oscar winner Paul Haggis is returning to the Bond series to write the 22nd adventure of Agent 007, starring Daniel Craig with Marc Forster taking the reigns as director. For the time being, the movie is being referred to merely as Bond 22.

During press for his latest film In the Valley of Elah, Haggis mentioned that writing Bond is very rewarding. "Bond is just pure imagination; you just get to have fun. It's escapism and it's fun, but I try to ground him as a human being."

But he does say that his version of James Bond is different than the others. "My Bond is an actual assassin; when he kills someone, he kills them with a knife, they're bloody and he pays a price. He denies that he pays a price, but he does. When he sees a woman who witnesses something horrific, and he sees her taking a shower, he doesn't just go in there and f*ck her, like the old Bond would have done. He sits there with her, and she says, 'I can't get this blood from my fingernails.' So he helps her get the blood from her fingernails; that's what he does, that's my Bond. So it's a different guy; it's a guy who's much more like these guys, these heroes (in 'Valley of Elah')."

As for the storyline, Mr. Haggis wasn't giving anything up including any possible shooting or setting locations, however he would say, "It picks up 2 minutes after the last one, and it's going to be fun."

He is sticking with the creation of Bond closer to the vision of author Ian Fleming, he said. "Yeah, I hope so because I really loved his books and his movies. That stuff was really close to his books, and most of them aren't."

He disproved the rumor about Carice van Houten, star of Paul Verhoeven's Black Book, being in Bond 22 as one of the vixens. "She's great, isn't she ? but she's not going to be in this one."

He also added, "Everyone says they know what the ending is, and they're wrong. Everyone thinks they know about the Bond Girls, and they're wrong."

Bond 22 is scheduled to hit theatres on November 7, 2008. In the Valley of Elah, which Haggis wrote and directed, opens in select cities September 14. Based on the true story of the investigation of a soldier's murder following his duty fighting in Iraq, it stars Tommy Lee Jones, Charlize Theron and Susan Sarandon.

When will we know if Monney Penny and Q are in this? I see Felix Lighter's supposedly coming back (or so IMDB says, so take that what it's worth). Now that the shock of him being a black guy is past, I'm certainly hoping to see more of him.

Casino Royale is the only Bond film I ever enjoyed and am so looking forward to this one.

Exact same story with me. Casino Royale is, in my opinion, the best Bond film, spy film, and overall best movie of 2006 all combined. I own the flick, and I am convinced it is a masterpiece that will soon enter the AFI 100 Years... list in a few years. A bittchin' great film! (sorry for the cussing I do that a lot. Sometimes the only way to express your true feelings is to swear; it shows how serious you are)

In fact, Casino Royale almost felt more like a Die Hard film as far as intensity and cold, ruthless action is concerned. Can't wait to see Craig kick major ass again!
