Your Favorite Movie Where The Characters Did NOT Speak English?

Das Boot was a great movie, the best by far i've seen in another language. Although it's also one of the most depressing movies I've seen...

La Belle et la Bête was the first I chose to watch, on PBS of course. Les Aventures extraordinaires d'Adèle Blanc-Sec is the most recent, I have to think more about my favorite though...

You bump so really crazy old random threads sometimes, but since it's here...

Would the film 13 Assassins count?

Not really so random...

Just watched The Seventh Seal again recently. Narrowing it down.

I'm appalled by your bumping of a non-Indy thread! :p
Yes, though for the "FILM" thread, this is the MOST appealing. Moreso than the J T P Anderson's possibly upcoming movie gossip thread.

The rules should work FOR the devil too, no?:)

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was the most recent foreign language film I watched, and would stand as my current favourite.
I liked the first and the last. The second wasn't all that interesting. Good films..among my favorite.

It's true that you're never far from the devil's tail. And with a gig like that, well, you deserve a few breaks!

Downfall...so much more than just a million internet subtitle jokes
That one allways caught my eye, but for some reason, I just avoided it.

Speaking of avoiding films, is Human Centipede not in English...? It's a Dutch film right? That's one I've avoided too, though with smile like these who wouldn't be tempted, they're SO proud!

Human Centipede II has been banned here - though I did read a detailed synopsis of what went on in it. Not for the faint-hearted.

The Idiots (Danish language) was another controversial movie. And the French language Baise Moi. Both are oddities that I wouldn't really class as likeable.

Amelie. Audrey Tautou is just great in everything except Da Vinci Code, which was kind of like the first Mr. Bean movie where they stripped the character of all things English to put him in an Americanized comedy. Bad move.

Akira Kurosawa's Dreams is beautiful and brilliant. Art in motion.

Honestly not that big of a fan of Seven Samurai. Maybe I'm missing it or need to see it again. I had high expectations.

Another wonderful foreign film -- 8 1/2 by Fellini. I've seen it in Italian with subtitles and dubbed into English. It was a pretty good dub, so that was interesting to compare the two experiences.

And I agree with others about Amelie and Life is Beautiful.

I haven't seen the dub, but it is a fantastic film. Easily my favorite non-English language film, in a walk.
