So, it's out. Did you get a copy already? For those of who don't yet have a code, and would like one, I have three extras sitting around collecting dust. Just me know.
In the meantime, the Subway Taste For Adventure Uncharted 3 Beta is up and running. It didn't take long either for the convivial atmosphere to be ruined either -- some maroon let loose with a litany of enn eye double-grr errs. Yeah, that. It completely ruined the evening. "Here we go again..."
Well, then.
Other than that, there are some positive aspects in this most current iteration.
Each weapon sounds distinct from each other; even weapons that are very similar, i.e. the AK-47 & KAL-7. Not only are they unique, but the sound is rich and loud.
The handful of maps currently available are quite large and wonderfully detailed. The standouts among them thus far: London Underground & Sand Village. A subway comes barreling through the London map at random intervals, and a sandstorm comes roaring in obscuring sight.
That sandstorm is quite possibly the best feature I've come across so far. You'll be playing when suddenly the wind picks up and starts to roar; a few seconds later sand covers the area before eventually completely reducing visibility to, maybe, a foot. It's a great feature once you see it in action. I just wish they would let it linger, at least partially reducing visibility throughout the remainder of the match.
Despite these visual upgrades there is something really off with the character models at this time. For me, the most obvious downgrade(?) is with Chloe Frazer. She barely resembles her Among Thieves self. Others have noticed, and started to post compare/contrast snaps on the official forums. Here's a couple for you. Feel free to form your own opinion.
Drake's Deception
Among Thieves
You can clearly see the differences in Chloe's...well, her lack of posterior. But if you look closer, the muscle definition in her legs is clearly missing. It's not even close to what it was. Part of me thinks that they didn't even have Claudia Black do the motion capture work. (We haven't seen any video since the announcement of Ms. Frazer's inclusion.)
From own experience, it looks like the game's villain, Katherine Marlowe, and Ms. Frazer share the exact same poses and stances. They might even share the same underlying skeletal structure.
Here's Elena.
I'm more than happy to wait to have a physical copy in my hand and hope for the best, but I don't think this is something that can be adjusted so close to the release date.
Thoughts? I haven't been able to confirm this independently or officially, but part of me thinks that this might be related to traditional Middle Eastern art styles. I haven't been able to pinpoint the exact thing, but something about the official promo art strikes me as being very similar.
