Little things you notice about the movies

Sigh. Did you read Metalinvader's post from TheRaider.net?
It says:

*sigh*

I read the post. And I'm telling you that's not what the DVD said. Did you not read my post?

Everyone wants to be a smarmy confrontational ass today.

Do you have a Special Features DVD that focuses solely on Raiders, or is yours the same as mine which is the Trilogy Special Edition?
To the best my memory, on my Trilogy Special Features DVD the deleted scene is not even mentioned. In the mean time, I'm sorry, but I think I trust TheRaider.net a little bit more than your word.

Everyone including yourself?

I don't want to seem confrontational but every post in this thread is factually misinformed. I don't think any post has even the slightest degree of evidence to back it up.

No, I just have TheRaider.net backing my claim. That's not accurate at all.

Not to be ... confrontational ... or anything.

Well, a lot of posts have been matters of interpretation, and so are not so much backed by facts as they are on assertions defended by argument. Fact comes into play, but it's not the same sort of thing as the Well of Souls Arab question, at least in my opinion.

And on that note: ResidentAlien is, I am quite certain, correct, and for whatever reason the bit that metalinvader quotes from theraider.net is incorrect. One wonders if there was somehow a mix-up with the deleted Pat Roach scene in Last Crusade in the description. I'm not sure whether it's from the DVD or elsewhere, but there's certainly record somewhere of the Arab fainting as being the original plan.

I'm 90% that it was the DVD though I COULD be wrong. But I know that that's how it played out and if you watch the movie, it's pretty clear that a full fight wasn't excised. The Arab is already collapsed by the time Indy and Marion climb out of the ruins. If anything they only cut an insert shot of the Arab staring in awe and collapsing.

...but that's all I have to say for tonight. Going to go find something more productive than hanging around this place. Only getting my blood pressure up.

In that case, my apologies.
I Googled what he said and could find no explanation of the scene other than that posted on this forum's parent page, which was posted by metalinvader.
As his theory was not backed by anything other than hearsay (which, in any case, turned out to be possibly true hearsay) I had no reason to accept it.
I guess, once more, I have placed to much faith in what I read here.

He's definitely not collapsed by the time they leave the ruins. Although the rest of your proposition seems infallible, these pictures clearly show that he was standing when Indy leaves the tomb:

BTW, sorry for double posting. I didn't realize that RA's post was before mine because I had already posted mine before I was able to read his. Sorry.

There's an edit button, friend, the time limit for which you fell under.

I don't know what to make of the photos, although it still looks a bit like he could be a superstitious fainting Arab, or the photos were somehow taken apart from the scene, although I don't know why that would be.

I've seen these photos on TheRaider.net and the scene has always been a bit of a mystery.
If the guy faints, he faints. The question is, was there any kind of struggle/fistifcuffs or not?

Can't find any mention of it on the Bonus DVD..

Yes, Attila, but it wasn't until I pressed POST that I realized my mistake. And the EDIT button doesn't allow me to delete a post.

I agree that he could be an awestruck Arab, which I have acknowledged:

But, these obviously disprove RA's statement that the Arab was already unconcious.

You mean the big German guy or the guy who looks through the windshield in disbelief, causing Indy and the driver to momentarily share a laugh? I'll have to check out.

I meant the second one you mentioned, the Egyptian.

Going back to the tanks/thanks debate, I always thought that was a play on words gag where Donovan thought the Sultan said "thanks" instead of "tanks" and replied "you're welcome".

It's a bit of wit that was lost on a lot of people and doesn't exist in all languages... but some for of pun was used in certain translations.

When you look at the script, it's printed as...

"You shall have camels, horses, an
armed escort, provisions, desert
vehicles?and tanks!"

There is a slight pause before he says "and tanks" which makes it sounds as if he is thanking Donovan.

Clearly a bit of wit.

I never took it that way. I mean, I see how people could see it that way, but I think you might just be looking into it too much.

I think he says "You're welcome" because he is like, "WOW, all that just for the car? We should've just mentioned the car instead of going through all the trouble to collect all those treasures in that chest."

... that's how "I" personally always took that line. Either way it's amusing.

Disagreeing with both of the most recent interpretations here, but possibly squaring the circle between the two schools of thought.

Donovan quite clearly knows that the sultan is actually saying "tanks." To say "you're welcome" in response, in full knowledge that "thanks" was not said, is a choice, and a wry one. What motivates this wryness? The knowledge that he's just received far more than he expected to get.

I watched the scene several times last night. When I first watched LC that night long, long ago, I interpreted the scene as Attila, assuming that Donovan was just shocked. But, after watching it over, the Sultan's delivery has no pause before "and tanks" except perhaps to suprise Donovan with extra military support and I think that it could be interpreted as mentioned by others, but it is still definitely just coincidence that it worked out the way it did. I hold this position, unless someone can ask the actors themselves.

In the train chase in LC, Roscoe's hair colour changes. In close ups, it's reddish brown and in wide shots, it's grey and he also appears taller (evidently a stunt double). It's always bothered me.
Perhaps he does appear taller in wider shots, but after watching this scene multiple times as well, I'm almost positive that it is simply the sun shining on his hair that makes the color lighter and a bit less saturated. There is a thug with grey hair, but he is dressed differently, so I assume that are just seeing the sun shining on his hair.

This scene is clearly a play on words... it's also sort of making fun of the sultan's accent by saying "tanks" is a little slang for "thanks." In the theater when Donovan said "you're welcome" in response to the sultan's "tanks" everyone chuckled a little. It can be taken either way, but for the most part, that dialogue was ment as a little tongue in cheek joke towards the pronunciation of "tanks" being taken as "thanks."

They would chuckle either way.
I really don't think it was meant to be like that.

Wow...I really don't see how you can't see it that way, especially since Donovan immediately responds with "you're welcome." Somebody write Steven Speilberg, I'm sure he would be happy to settle this debate. (y)

Anyway, on to another topic...I always thought it was funny when Willie's voice got really deep when yelling at Indy in the raft... "I hate the water, I hate being wet and I hate YOU!" Really stands out to this day.
