Haha, The Raven's version of a Civil War. :p

Speaking of double barrels, the side by side are far better than the over under. Just putting my opinion in there.

Anyone else notice how quite The Raven is today??
Looks like it's only me, Finn, Montana, and Rocket.

Hark at us, gossiping like a pair of school girls!

Nice collection. Would love to own some but I'd be too nervous to make a purchase with these OTT laws. Can't even buy a steak knife without ID.

Hear about the guy raided because a nosey neighbour called the cops after looking in the window and seeing an unconvincing life sized Lara Croft statue brandishing her large guns....ahem...?

The laws didn't stop Moat or Bird recently, and somehow the police are blamed. Sorry, but how can we expect the police to prevent this when most of them only carry radar guns for detecting and fining for petty crime, rather than actually stopping it. When armed response officer's do catch up and the sicko then commits suicide as he's not the tough guy he was pretending to be, it's still not the psyho's fault?

That's the thing about most of our law today, those designed to prevent crime don't work, be it weapons, terrorism, drugs, speeding etc.

Banning things makes people hide them, not relinquish them nor do bans cure the homicidal.

That's just it. The criminal who intends to use a gun will always be able to get hold of one.

The law on imitations is probably just as much to prevent the reckless owner from putting themself in the firing line as it preventing violent crime. It was the same with those cheap Samurai swords (which the sword community refer to as S.L.O.s - 'sword like objects'). They pose danger because the blades aren't properly pegged to the tang (because they're constructed of separate pieces) or the handle itseld will come lose, and there's a risk of the blade flying off when somebody decides to 'show off some moves'.

Glad to see I'm not the only one to notice the total worthlessness (That a word?) of gun control.

Even though New Orleans is still one of the most gun crazy killing places. . . And we don't have much gun control.

I read a Times last week, perhaps week before. Said we had the highest gun related crime rate in America. Thanks alot N.O.
I don't know how the people would react to a gun law in Louisiana.

Off topic, maybe, but my aunt just found out that people can carry unconcealed guns on their person and she goes, "Well what gives them the right?!" and I go "Little something called 2nd Amendment" she replies "What is this, the wild west?!!" I go "It's pretty close."
Same person who asked me which country the earth's core was under. . .

. . . Ah, ig'nance.
(I notice this is the most I've ever typed in one thread, Haha.)

Hey Doc B. Know where I could get me one of them statues? ;]

I was going to add some notes on the Violent Crime Reduction Act 2006, where it deals with imitations.

The Act primarily deals with the "Manufacture, import and sale of realistic imitation firearms", with the intent to reduce the number of "modern realistic imitations" in the country (i.e. imitations of a post 1870 design).

In the case of possession, it is specific that that the Act makes it a crime to possess an imitation firearm "in a public place".

As I wrote at the beginning of this thread, you have to treat replicas with respect. The police don't want to see them on the streets, as they may engender fear, and they may cause the person brandishing it to be shot by armed police, who won't be able to tell that the gun is a fake.

In the Netherlands it's pretty bad as well. You are not allowed to own a replica of a gun at all.

Even if it's a crappy toy gun with fluorescent colours.

You are however allowed real guns, with the proper permit.

Wich is why I have two Lee Enfield rifles (numer 1 mark 3, number 4 mark 1) for re-enactment, a Röhm Twinmaster for shooting and a Lefaucheux revolver for playing Indy.... :gun:

Is that because the police are so stoned that everything looks fluorescent anyway? :p

The laws on possessing de-activated guns seem to have relaxed here. Some websites no longer specify a requirement for proof that you want them for theatre, film, re-enactment, public museum etc. It appears that there are more restrictions on imitations: which makes me think that the government are more concerned about keeing affordable replicas out of the hands of those who might get themselves into trouble.

This is from the Hertfordshire Constabulary police website (the first such official page to turn up on a Google search):

Deactivated weapons are any firearms which have been converted, in such a manner that they can no longer discharge any shot, bullet or other missile. More importantly, deactivation is intended to be permanent and such firearms should be incapable of being reactivated without specialist tools or skills.

Deactivation work carried out in the UK since 1st July 1989 will generally have been endorsed by one of the Proof Houses, the weapon proof-marked and a certificate of deactivation issued. To these ends, any weapon, even a prohibited weapon such as a machine gun, can be deactivated. The outcome is that the weapon is no longer a firearm within the meaning of the Firearms Acts, and consequently may be possessed without a firearm or shotgun certificate and may be displayed in the owner's home, rather than be locked in a gun cabinet.

...

You should ensure that you are shown the Proof House mark and certificate issued in respect of any gun deactivated in the UK since 1st July 1989

In which case, I'm not saying they deserve to get shot, but they don't deserve much sympathy and the police don't deserve to be criticised for it. :gun::dead:

Yes, the police have to make a life or death judgement call. An idiot will take a police bullet, and the police shooter has to live with the consequences.

They can't be blamed, apart from that time a few years ago when they shot a guy dead for carrying a chair leg which they mistook for a gun. That was harsh...

Yeah, that was a bad pun, Dr Bones. In a good bad way!

In their defence "the officers honestly believed that they were facing a sawn-off shotgun." (and not a table leg)

La Saboteur that's the craziest video I have seen in an age! HAHA!! (y)

I can't imagine jumping in car, half cut drinking from what looks like a vase and rocking up at my pal's house with an M16 to destroy his tv.

Um, for my own personal protection and my home, I'll just have the fully automatic assault rifle pleae.

Only in America.

Ps. Disco and Montana, bad puns are my speciality.

On a serious note I was shocked by the case where an 8 year old boy accidentally killed himself with an UZI at a firing range.
Tragic and senseless doesn't cover it.

I too am good with puns, but I refrain because I don't know how raveners take them. . . :p

But yes, that is sad.
Father always told me never to look into a gun barrel, even toy guns.
As if he had to tell me twice after what I had seen it do to a duck.
I wonder what supervision that boy had.
A boy that young:
- Shouldn't have an Uzi.
- No seriously, who was watching this boy?

The range marshalls and his father. I totally agree he should have been nowhere near a weapon like that at his age, no matter who was suposed to be supervising.

Then again I would question the purpose of anyone owning an UZI.

I can't see the point of such a weapon in society. It's not practical for home protetction or hunting. It's just an evil antipersonnel weapon. It's malicious design is clearly too dangerous for a novice and this was nothing short of stupidity.
