Knew of this expedition quite a while ago, as my father was the Navigator and Project Manager on the trip. Very interesting stuff from what he's told me, as what the article doesn't tell you is that in one of the probes they sent down into the sea, they managed to find a chip of wood. They're now carbon dating this chip to see it's age. What makes this exciting is that if the chip is around 5000-6000BCE it belongs in the era of "Old Europe", a period in which civilization was known to start developing (with the start of agriculture and metalworking). Any civilizations lost down in the sea will be an important part to play in recording pre-historic times. And while we're at it, who's to say Plato's lost city isn't down there? (I joke with the last line :p).

It'll be interesting to see what people make of this.
