Spielberg revealed his plans to utilize a style that might qualify, to some sensibilities, as Teutonic, with rich, black shadows and intriguing compositions of light patterns to create the kind of filmic atmosphere which belongs almost exclusively to a handful of European directors - and to Europeans who made the great noir films during the '40s.

Well, here's one for the file.

Virtually the same text as printed in his Prevue Magazine...great artisty.:hat:

The film reels story is new...and very cool to know that for sure.

The back seat of [Spielberg's] car was stacked with a multitude of film cans. Steranko noted a few of their titles: Spy Smasher and Zorro's Fighting Legion, the serial reference Lucas had mentioned during their initial phone call.

That really emphasizes the many influences and inspirations for Indiana Jones, and in a real sense, not just in the sense of half-recalled pulp serials. They'd taken the trouble to actually pick up the films.

Sounds like a Leni Riefenstahl moment! Indy appearing in the shadows became a powerful image. Again, this shows that they were doing a certain amount of research, and had intentions for Raiders that exceeded making a simple tale of pulpy adventure.

P.S. The "Starlog" article you posted in #431 was one of the things on my list of items to contribute. You beat me to it! Oh, well...

VHS from the 80's with TOD teaser trailer

I was in my storage the other day and ran across my first copy of Raiders I got when I was 6-7 years old. It's a little beat up but it's 30 years old. It has advertisements for TOD on the cover front and back and also on the tape before the movie it has the teaser trailer I've seen posted here somewhere before.(Can't remember where so I posted a link below the photos to the video )

Wow, they really have NEVER done the Indy "brand" any justice.

Cool to see, thanks for posting, but what a piece of trash design.

A bit off topic but relates to a previous posting. A retro design.
