Django Unchained

Leo in?

http://www.slashfilm.com/leonardo-dicaprio-quentin-tarantinos-villain-django-unchained/

There are a lot of rumors coming out about Quentin Tarantino?s upcoming film Django Unchained. We know that Christoph Waltz will play one of the two main characters, the German dentist turned bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz. Samuel L. Jackson will be Stephen, the head house slave to the movie?s villain, Calvin Candie. We know that QT wants (or wanted) Will Smith to be the lead character, Django, but we haven?t heard anything about who might play Calvin Candie. Now the rumor mill is churning out one name loud and clear: Leonardo DiCaprio.

There has been a flirtation between Tarantino and DiCaprio for a few years. QT reportedly wanted the actor to play the Hans Landa part in Inglourious Basterds, and while that obviously didn?t happen, there was also the report from Variety that the Christoph Waltz part in Django Unchained was originally written for DiCaprio. As it is now, that part screams Christoph Waltz, but it isn?t too difficult to imagine a version that would have suited DiCaprio.

Franco Nero talks Django Unchained...

http://www.obsessedwithfilm.com/int...jango-quentin-tarantinos-django-unchained.php

?In Germany they have a complex with Django,? laughs Nero. ?All the movies that I did they called them Django, you know? Like my film How to Kill a Judge, a political thriller, became Django with the Mafia. The Shark Hunter became Django versus the Shark! But you know it?s not my problem. And now Tarantino wants to do a Django movie?so ok.?

?I?ve never had an offer. I know only that Tarantino likes me a lot. In many interviews Tarantino kept talking about me and then one day in Rome at the opening of Kill Bill, Harvey Weinstein was on the stage and said that Quentin Tarantino couldn?t come because he was sick, but ?he begged me to say hello to Franco Nero!??

?So finally one and a half years ago Tarantino came to Rome and I had lunch with him. And he said, ?I was 14 when I started to watch your movies,? and he started to recite lines from my movies?he even remembered the music! But I haven?t heard anything after that. I was at the Festival of Berlin this year with Vanessa and Harvey Weinstein saw me at a party and said, ?oh Franco you?re gonna be in Tarantino?s next movie,? but that?s all I know. I?m happy that he will do a Django movie even if I don?t do it.?

An inglourious reunion? (this has since proven to be false, but either way, we can dream right?)

http://www.budez.com/topics/2011/06...-joining-quentin-tarantinos-django-unchained/

We already know that there’s a role written for and possibly occupied by Christoph Waltz, who won an Academy Award for his turn as Hans Landa in Tarantino’s World War II epic. Now, it looks like he could have some familiar company in the form of fellow “Basterds” co-star Michael Fassbender.

Fassbender, currently appearing in theaters as Magneto in “X-Men: First Class,” spilled the beans of his involvement on Twitter, saying: “Great news everyone. Quentin Tarantino has asked me to be his latest film Django Unchained. He was talking so fast, but I said ‘f***, yes’.”

Moments later, Fassbender removed the tweet and quickly wrote a follow-up message: “Wait, forget I told you about the Tarantino thing, I wasn’t supposed to! F***. My cue to log off.”

Jamie Foxx close to being Django?

http://www.obsessedwithfilm.com/movie-news/is-jamie-foxx-close-to-being-django-unchained.php

Jamie Foxx as Quentin Tarantino?s black slave who is freed, trained under the tutelage of Christoph Waltz?s eccentric former dentist turned bounty hunter, and then becomes an all out Clint Eastwood style gunslinger out to save his bride who is enslaved by Leonardo DiCaprio?s evil plantation owner in Django Unchained? Wow, what a prospect and it?s solid casting if it comes off, there?s just no other way to put it.

Either way Tarantino goes w/ casting, it seems like he won't go wrong (unless he casts Chris Tucker... that is, also Tucker has acting chops he never decided to show us in the Rush Hour Trilogy :p ).

Django will be freed... Christmas 2012:

http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/article/tarantinos-django-unchained-set-christmas-2012-release

Gitesh Pandya has revealed (and I've since confirmed with the Weinstein Co.) that the studio has set a Christmas Day 2012 release date for Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, which centers on a freed slave who seeks to reunite with his slave wife, a journey which will see him team up with Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz), a German bounty hunter, to take down Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio), an evil plantation owner

Is this the obligatory Tarantino comeback role? (as previously seen w/ John Travolta, Robert Forester, David Carradine, etc.)

http://www.deadline.com/2011/07/kevin-costner-joining-quentin-tarantinos-django-unchained/

Quentin Tarantino never has trouble putting together good casts for his films, but his Sergio Leone-style Spaghetti Western Django Unchained is turning out to be quite something. Kevin Costner is in negotiations to join a cast that is headed by Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Costner is in talks to play Ace Woody, and it's a real surprise turn for an actor most associated with good guy roles. He's the sadistic trainer of the male fighting slaves who entertain the white patrons of Candyland as well as the female slaves who are forced to be prostitutes. The club and ranch are owned by Calvin Candie (DiCaprio) and Ace Woody is the one who pits the "mandingo" fighters against one another, and has little qualms about mistreating and even killing the slaves who don't measure up.

I can't see Costner as Woody. I don't think Costner has ever played a "mean" or "bad" dude. He just doesn't come across that way. Unless Costner has some acting chops and can pull out his bad side. Then again, what if Tarantino is not looking at this in terms of bad guy, but more or less this was the reality of the time and Woody is just a normal guy going along with the zeitgeist as so many were. I think that would be more interesting way to look at it anyway.

Costner was pretty bada** in "3000 Miles to Graceland" (an underrated film imo). "Mr. Brooks" was a serial killer role and Costner was fantastic. Would be nice to see him in another bad guy role.

Before Django Unchain arrives in theaters, make sure and check out the film that inspired its name. It's currently streaming on Netflix.

Costner out...

http://www.slashfilm.com/kevin-coster-pass-tarantinos-django-unchained/

This will be a small item for some people, but I think it?s a shame: while Kevin Coster was reported to be in talks for a supporting role in Quentin Tarantino?s upcoming film Django Unchained, we?ve learned the actor ended up having to pass on the role. A tweet from Variety staffer Justin Kroll said, ?And in another interesting piece of casting news, Kevin Costner has had to pass on DJANGO UNCHAINED due to scheduling conflicts.?

As far as I'm concerned, Costner will be missed. This role could easily have been the obligatory comeback role QT has in his films (Travolta in Pukp Fiction, David Carradine in Kill Bill). It'll be interesting who they get to replace him...

Not much news except for the usual talk from the actors. Although we have our first glimpse at the set and (possibly) the soundtrack:

http://reservoirwatchdogs.com/2012/...hooting-in-santa-clarita-soundtrack-revealed/

?It?s a blast shooting here. Most other western towns look like dollhouses. This has the complete look. It?s fantastic.?

But that?s not all, apparently Quentin has been playing one particular song by Jim Croce throughout his time on set, similarly to the way Sergio Leone did it with Ennio Morricone?s music.

I'm a fan of Jim Croce, although I never remember hearing this song before. Hope it makes it into the movie, it seems like a song you would see it one of those 70's westerns (kinda like how Bob Dylan did Knocking on Heaven's Door for Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid).
