James Bond

Every Roger Moore Bond movie is a classic. I'm tired of this follow the crowd snobbery toward Moore's efforts. Let's remember, he played Bond more than any of the other guys ( excluding Connery's Never Say Never Again which isn't canon and was trounced over by Moore's Octopu$$y)) If that's not proof that he was doing something right, I don't know what is.

Haha, oh man, no way. Moore is a no talent clown. He should have been wearing a red nose and oversized shoes because the latter movies he made were pure and utter garbage. Sorry but View to a Kill and Octo***** are downright embarassments to the James Bond franchise to try to envision such a kick ass secret agent as an ill witted geriatric who looks like he'd need help getting up alot of steps let alone fighting on a bridge or train.

Those 2 movies always detracted from Bond, same w/ Moonraker. All of those are considered bombs now and they were bombs when they first came out, did Moonraker do well in theatres? Yes but all the people who saw it agreed it was rediculous BS. Those movies make me despise Moore's talent like Live and Let Die which is half decent, I just don't like to watch because I dislike where Moore took the character. He was like the Adam West of Bonds, hes there and you want to love him, but in retrospect all hes good for is a small chuckle here and there and its at his expense.

Hey! Glad to hear your opinion. Glad I've aired mine! Shame that neither of us can change each others opinions! God bless Roger Moore, the ultimate Bond.

Moore films were certainly fun and entertaining. I won't deny that.

However, did a majority of them follow Fleming's literary character of Bond? Not necessarily. "For Your Eyes Only" was the closest.

But, oh God, "The Spy Who Loved Me"- such an exciting adventure. Each Moore film had their own little perk; plus, he was just an all around relaxed and cool Bond. :D

Moore was hands down the worst Bond. His films were so tongue-in-cheek and dull. He may have been the longest running Bond but he overstayed his welcome by about 5 or 6 films.

Many were tongue-in-cheek, but I don't think For Your Eyes Only qualifies as such. After Moonraker, the producers decided it was wise to get Bond back down to Earth (pun intended). I've always felt that For Your Eyes Only is to Roger Moore what From Russia With Love is to Sean Connery. :)

Casino Royale. Now that is a grey and bland movie. Also, the whole movie is out of sync. If it's his first mission, why is it set nowadays?.. Disgraceful lack of respect for the viewer. Of course, that's just my opinion.

I can't see how you can call him the Ultimate, I mean I can see liking him, and I'll sumbit The Spy Who Loved Me is fun if nothing else, but cmon the ultimate? Have you ever read a James Bond novel? He isn't James Bond, he's like Tim Burton's Batman, he made it his own.

Moore's movies are in the same categoery as Austin Powers for me. They are light hearted adventure parodies of James Bond. While say Tim Dalton for example just embodies the true realisation of Bond as a cold calculated brutal killer.

Oh well, as you say, its opinion, but to me Sean will always be best, followed by Dalton, Craig, Lazzenby, Sellers/Niven then Moore.

I'm British. Of course I've read the novels. It's expected by her majesty. Is it that offensive to stray from the source material? It's like generic medication. It may not be the original but it works for me. I also love Adam West as Batman. To me, he IS Batman.

Adam West is cool because he makes fun of himself tho, and it was made as a spoof not something aiming to be serious. Is it bad to deviate from the source? no, there are times where it proves successful but in the case of say Moonraker, someone blew it. If they made Star Wars Rogue Squadron and "deviated" so that no one is flying around would that work? Maybe but would I see it? Hell no.

Like I said, Moore is just too campy for me, If he was named John Band, and his series of movies were there own little stand alones it would have been cool.

But when you establish a character as a suave young man, w/ an I don't follow rules attitude and it works, then you change it to an old man making corny jokes in space w/ really buff black chicks, you alienate your fans and harm the overall reputation of the series which is exactly what Moore did. Octo***** was terrible and because of Moore going out on such low notes, It hurt Tim Dalton's ability to try to reinvent the series. Not until Goldeneye did people really start excepting Movie bond openly again.

The reputation is harmed only to people who don't like Roger Moore. To me, his films are the highlight of the whole series. He does have legions of fans who think the same way as myself. (Apparently, they don't post on the Raven, which is surprising seeing that Moore's Bond films are tongue in cheek like Indy!)
Huge grossings for each Bond movie he starred in. The paying public were not forced to watch them with a gun in their backs! The guy did a great job.

Have you seen Cannonball Run where Moore plays a character who thinks he is Roger Moore, the greatest spy of all-time? Awesome movie.

I grew up with Moore's Bond so he is my favorite. If you go back and watch the Connery Bond from the sixties, he is quite a racist.

Racist? I disagree. Now that scene in the barn w/ Honor Blackman where he all but rapes her to get her to kiss him, I could understand calling him sexist.

Cannonball Run was the first movie I rented on VHS. You gotta love Roger Baby. I can't imagine Mr. Connery sending himself up like that. Plus, Roger Moore appeared on The Muppet Show. What a guy.

(Okay! Okay! I admit it. He's my uncle.)

And that's just how Moore plays Bond as well. Completely unsure of himself.

"Actually, my name is Bond... James Bond, with the British secret service."

"And I'm Dick Tracy and you're still under arrest."

I must admit that I do feel sorry for Sean Connery throughout the seventies.
While Sir Roger was conquering the cinema world with his 007 escapades, Sean was wearing a moustache and underpants in Zardoz.
I think I would look cooler than Roger in that semi flared safari suit. If only I'd have continued onto Live And Let Die.I suppose I shall have to wait until The Untouchables to regain credibility. :D
