I've been a big fan of the Alien Franchise for years, and even liked Alien 3 & 4 (though a lot of fans didn't).

Really looking forward to this new film, especially because it will be directed by R. Scott, who did the first one way back in '79.

The Poster...

And to keep this Indy related, as seems to be a major gripe about the films section, It appears that the tone of this will be very much akin to that of the first film... much like fans wanted to see in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull but were unpleasantly surprised to find it was much much different.
Only time will tell.

That's a fantastic trailer.

I can see the Alien and Aliens similarities (not to mention the Space Jockey ship), so why was Ridley so cagey about this not being so connected?

I read that some of their 'cousins' are in it.

The story sounds like humans created the aliens...since Frankenstein's monster was "The Modernm Prometheus".

Wow. Thanks for this. I blew right by a print ad in today's paper without even realizing what it was.

This video is in russian but it does give away a few more shots. Tell-tale shots Actually I think I've been spoiled enough to know what happens... I may not be looking for stuff anymore.

Also it shows a page of the screenplay, which I've been trying to decipher through the pixel blur for 5 min. I give up. Here it is.

I know I said I wasn't gonna look, but I accidentally stumbled upon this.
The MOST complete look at what Prometheus will be to date.
I'm officially not looking anymore... or I will ruin it for myself.

Prometheus

This film seems to be getting a bit of a bashing. I saw it. And it seems to me that these sorts of films grow in popularity exponentially years after there initial release. Blade Runner comes to mind. It was hated when it came out and is now quite popular.

I liked Prometheus. I didn't love it. Visually it was just sex. Wonderful eye candy. Ridley has not lost his visual flair at all. Best 3D I've seen yet.

Now I'll get into light spoiler territory.

Every time a film deals with the concept of God or Gods, it seems to have a negative affect on audiences? examples being Star Trek 5 and hell, even Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Why? I think it's because you can't really try and explain god in a film. Those who have tried failed. This film doesn't explain anything and it's getting a lot of flak for doing that. So you're damned if you do and damned if you don't.

I do think people are harping too much on the fact that the film leaves many questions unanswered. But then again your average audience can't connect the dots. They like to be spoon fed everything. People crave certainty. They like clear resolutions. I like Prometheus for the reason that it leaves some things open up for interpretation.

There are one or two things that were completely illogical and infuriating, but other than those two things I think people are just belly aching that they didn't get the definitive answers for everything they wanted to know.

I hope in time I grow to love Prometheus, but for now I just like it. I know I'm in the minority here but it is what it is. In a week or so after its been out a while, I'll get a little more spoilery for anyone on here who wants to discuss it. But I will say the film is worth the price of admission even solely based on the visual experience. Even if you see it in 2D? I guarantee it.

And if your looking for one more little statement to bring you in, someone who didn't like some of the film said to me, "It was pretty, and I wasn't bored."

Saw it last night. I absolutely loved it. I think everyone who disappointed in the movie was hoping the ship was the same ship that landed on the other LV(426?) Anywho, again I absolutely loved it.

Prometheus was brilliant! Being a huge fan of the Alien franchise from way back, I was really looking forward to the film and it definitely did not dissapoint.

I felt it was a great stand-alone movie, as well as serving as a nice prequel to the original "Alien". Plus, it had nice nods/homages to both "Alien" and "Aliens".

That all being said, do not go see this expecting to see "Alien 5"; it was much more "cerebral" (for lack of a better word) than the previous 4 films, i.e. it was asking universal questions like "Why are we here?", "Where did we come from?", etc.
