Indiana Jones III - The Cave Of Death?

I came across a picture of a magazine that I remember having when I was younger. It was called Starblazer and it was the Spring 1985 special issue. It had a cover story about the 'third' Indiana Jones movie being called The Cave Of Death. Did anyone besides me ever have, seen, or remember this? Weird and very creepy:

First time I've seen that also... It looks made up, but makes me wonder what some of the early ideas for Indy III might have been...

The cover says "Spring 1985" but it actually came out in late '84.

As for the "The Cave of Death", the story is about Indy, Shorty &
a Melissa Saint searching for King Solomon's Mines. Indy must fight
the Devil to get the jewels. You Aussie fans might like to know that
the tale begins with Indy & Shorty in 1935 Melbourne. (I'll try and
transcribe it when I have the time as it's not that long.) Tanya
Roberts was the rumoured Indy Girl.

Other Indy content includes interviews with Spielberg, Capshaw
and an article on classic, matinee serials. Tons of photos b/w pix.

The last half is filled with James Bond, "Star Trek", "The Bride"
and "Baby - Secret of the Lost Legend".

Indy fights the Devil!? Wow! Don't think I've ever seen any mention of this plot before. Sounds interesting and scary (as in: what the hell where they thinking!?) at the same time.

Had that cover came up within the last five years as a serious contender for Indy IV, I predict the Skywalker Ranch would be lying in smoking ruins by now.

No, I checked on that- that's actually actress Kristina Wayborn, who played Magda in Moore's '83 Bond film. I have come across a pic or two of Alison from A View To A kill, though.

I wonder if Indy is still afraid of snakes in KOTCS... or if he will wrestle one while a beautiful girl holds his leg?

That cover is pretty funny.

That cover reminds me of the original Lampoon's Vacation movie, where Chevy Chase holds up a tennis racket and Beverly is holding his leg like that. :p

Mmmm... Army of Darkness. Yum.

Still, it's sort of a cliche poster pose. In no way unique.

Is this issue rare, though? I'm tempted to start scouting one out if I can get it cheap enough. The cover is just so tempting...

Thanks Stoo for sharing those info!! :whip:
I had never heard about that screenplay before now.
"The Cave of Death"... well, the title wasn't so bad but maybe the story was a little too much for a good Indiana Jones movie. I can assume it was on the same quality level of "The Saucer Men From Mars" story. Quite bad, as oki9sedo already wrote.

And, by the way... ResidentAlien, I have to say I'm scared to death by your new avatar!! :D
