i did a search and didnt see anything about this ----------------------------i bumped into a friend of mine a few days ago and he said that he and a group were touring the offices of the musem of science and industry in chicago and he noticed plans for a INDIANA JONES EXHIBIT to be there possibly in the year late 2010 early 2011 --- he said that there was diagrams of things for kids to do like digging up pots and treasures and artifacts , and also indiana jones movie items --- so i guess that is something new to look foward to in the future here in chicago---- i am guessing it is something like what lucasfilm did with star wars a few years ago ?

Indy is neither science or industry, so why he'd be at Chicago's Museum of Science & Industry is beyond me. If it were the Field Museum (the logical choice), sure. But since they're currently exhibiting art n' props n' costumes from the latest Harry Potter flick, why not. It'd definitely be cool to see.

That said, I can't find any information regarding the exhibit on their website -- no press release yet. I did find the contact number for some dude named Brian Packer, and another for a Beth Boston. Both appear to be in public/press relations, so who knows how much they'll be able to tell if anything.

Brian Packer - (773) 684-9844 ext. 3133
Beth Boston - (773) 684-9844 ext. 6003

I'll attempt to call on Monday, unless somebody else wants to take a stab at it.

This sounds great. I remember the Museum of Science and Industry had Indy's hat, whip, and jacket from LC when they had their movie exhibit a few years back. But a full Indy exhibit? I'm there.

Kazanjian mentions the documentary in this ArcLight Q&A...
http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=1458744381157

Most imortantly it ends with Kazanjian saying they are currently putting together a tour, (like The Magic of Myth, the former Smithsonian exhibit with over 200 props, costumes, ship models, and production and conceptual artwork) possibly for next year!

Unbelievable news!

Then will we get Indiana Jones: In Concert?!

One of our newer members, Lance Mazmanian, emailed the link:
Understand I had NOTHING to do with the video, audio, editing. I
simply talked Howard into being there, and asked him some questions.
Note that the 20-second introduction was cut. Unfortunate, since it put a
frame around the Q&A and set the context.
Finally, this is a four-part series. Part One is not nearly as revealing of
new historical information as the other parts, but it's still pretty fun.
Hopefully the other 3 parts will surface...

Greetings, Moedred!

Glad to be here. Thought I'd take a second to provide a brief update on the new RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK/Howard Kazanjian Q&A.

I'm soon posting a PDF and/or text file transcript of the full Q&A, unedited. When finished, I'll post the link at Twitter.

http://www.twitter.com/LanceMazmanian

Will also stop-by from time to time. In fact, I'm going to look around right now!

And yes, RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK is the greatest film of its kind ever made.

Cheers!

So Lucas was suing Battlestar Galactica for similarities to Star Wars, then Lucas had to ask producer Glen Larson to let Tom Selleck make a movie in England during the US writer's strike, which was delaying the first season of Magnum PI.

Wait, it goes back further...
George Lucas meets with Douglas Trumbull, the director and special effects chief on 1972?s Silent Running, and is all, ?Hey, I like those two-footed robots you?ve got, there.? Four years later, the world gets R2-D2 and other biped ?bots in Star Wars. Universal Studios is all, ?Hey, no stealies!? And sues 20th Century Fox. Then, upon the release of Star Wars knockoff(ish) Battlestar Galactica in 1978, 20th Century Fox is all, ?Oh, yeah?? And countersues.

Thank you very much Mr. Mazmanian!:hat: As a collector of films which influenced Indiana Jones, I'm very curious about the one Howard mentions regarding the Peruvian temple. It could be "Green Hell" but I'm not sure. Any idea?

Re: "Battlestar Galactica". Back in the day, I remember reading that George was not very pleased that effects-wizard, John Dykstra worked on it.

Anyway, too bad the Adventure Tour will be limited to only the U.S. as I'd like to see some of the miniatures in person. Guess I'll just have to make do with the "Lucasfilm Archives" book.

Not the tour...

...but if you live in West Michigan:
August 01st, 2010 - Out of This World: Extraordinary Costumes from Film and TelevisionFamous original costumes are featured from some of the most popular science fiction and fantasy films and television shows of all time. Indiana Jones's leather jacket and whip, Darth Vader's cape and helmet, and the Wicked Witch of the West's hat are a few of the cultural icons that explore the role of costume in defining characters.Free admission

Since it came up elsewhere, here's the complete explanation from Howard Kazanjian why Tom Selleck wasn't Indy:
"George Lucas wanted Tom Selleck for the movie. George was suing Universal for "Battlestar: Galactica," because many of the characters ripped him off. Glen Larson was the producer who not only has ripped George Lucas off, but a lot of other creative people. That's documented. So, George and Fox are now... we know the film is a Paramount picture, so George personally is suing Universal and Glen Larson. Glen Larson is the producer on the Tom Selleck television show. "Magnum: P.I." So, we knew that a strike, an actor's strike, was going to happen. It was inevitable, just like the writer's strike we had a year ago. And we said, to Universal, give us Tom Selleck for this picture, because we're making it in England, not under SAG, but under Equity, so we can keep working during the strike. And then by the time the strike is over, you'll get him back, and he'll have a great picture under his belly. They wouldn't do it.
Magnum P.I. premiered December 1980, and probably wouldn't have missed Selleck that summer.

That makes things clearer, Moedred. Thanks for posting that.

I'm still sure that Universal's reluctance to release Selleck was a lucky break for Indy fans!

Presented by National Geographic, and made possible by Lucasfilm Ltd., Indiana Jones and the Adventure of Archaeology is an innovative exhibition that immerses visitors in the science behind field archaeology.

As it leads viewers on a museum adventure inspired by their beloved film hero, Indiana Jones TM, the exhibition connects his fictional world to facts that are true to the science of archaeology?whether in the search for treasure, the discovery of artefacts, or their analysis and interpretation.

The Indiana Jones brand humour and adventurous spirit is infused throughout the exhibit to help engage viewers and stimulate their imaginations. Consequently, the exhibition holds broad appeal for all audiences: neophytes and experts, families, film fans, tourists and the general public alike.

Included in the exhibition is a vast and exclusive collection of Indy film props, models, concept art and set designs on loan from the Lucasfilm Archives.

As viewers learn the factual and historical inspiration behind Indy?s adventures, they will also be exposed to some of the world?s most impressive material remains and cultural artefacts from ancient societies. Genuine archaeological artefacts and educational material will be provided by the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology (commonly known as the Penn Museum). The National Geographic Society, the exhibition?s global presenting partner, will also share some of its revered artefacts, photos, videos and articles.
