PlayStation Network back online

I read somewhere that everyone was getting free content by way of an apology, but this seems to indicate only those who have already bought specific titles?

Seems very unfair if that's the case. (n)

Sony have messed up big time and I think it will damage them long term.

Comsumers won't forget this level of utter incompetence followed by delays and lies.

Sony may be in trouble. If I was to by a console today or the next gen, I don't think I could trust them.

360 is cheaper and designed around online gameplay. PS3 just slapped it on as an afterthought and it shows.

I honestly have not missed my online PS3 games and have been more satisfied with my decrepit pc games.

As of tonight (5/15), I still can't change my password on my PS3 system (even though the new firmware requires it) because of error messages, so no PSN. The email system for changing passwords via PC is down for "maintenance," so all in all I'd call Sony's restoration effort another epic FAIL. Probably just trying to hide the fact (again) that they're still weeks away from full functionality. And...most disconcertingly, still no word on how to sign up for the identity theft protection program they've promised us. Nearly a month after our financial info was accessed, and here we are with nothing to show for it. Hackers may have initiated this fiasco, but Sony has been determined to show everyone just how truly incompetent they could be in responding. I'm astounded.

Yeah, their servers are overwhelmed because somehow they didn't realize everyone would be changing passwords at the same general time. Like I said, epic FAIL on the part of Sony. Actually I got the password reset email no problem. It directed me to a page with the infamous "site currently undergoing maintenance" message. Even their automated response to overwhelmed servers is BS (why not just say "oops, our servers are busy" rather than "maintenance?"). Hopefully "maintenance" will be complete within 24 hours, which is when the link they emailed me will expire. I read that update earlier and wasn't impressed.

You get what you pay for, and I'm a fan of both networks (Live and PSN).

and Japan says wait a minute....

Japanese government refuses Sony approval for PSN relaunch

According to a report from the Dow Jones newswire, a Japanese regulatory official has confirmed that the nation's government hasn't given Sony approval to relaunch PSN services in the territory. The source, Ministry of Economy Content Industry director Kazushige Nobutani, says the government refused Sony's initiative to resuscitate the platform. "As of May 13, Sony was incomplete in exercising measures that they said they will do on the May 1 press conference." The details of which measures haven't been enacted yet were not released.

The source added that the government wants clearer terms on what Sony's doing to protect its users' credit card info, saying, "There were similar cases in the past that were caused by other firms, and we are asking Sony whether their measures are good enough when compared to countermeasures taken in the past."

We're telling you guys -- just put all the credit card info in a big pile surrounded by a shark-filled moat. Done!

I'd say the best thing is the 30 days FREE of PS Plus, just snag what you can for those 30 days that may be exclusive.
