Somme and WWI

For the fans of the Somme and WWI (or should I say "The Great War" ) episodes, those are clips from some other similar productions on the same theme. I am immediately feeling Young Indy atmosphere when I am watching those:

I've seen that documentary on the Battle of the Somme but haven't seen "The Trench" or "Joyeux Noël". The both look very good.

Have you ever seen the 1979 made-for-TV version of "All Quiet on the Western Front"? I keep recommending it to Young Indy fans because footage from the film was used in 2 of the episodes.

A couple of months ago, I bought a DVD of a 1934 German propaganda war film called, "Stosstrupp 1917" (a.k.a. "Shock Troop"). Battle footage is virtually non-stop and very authentic. Wehrmacht troops played the extras & real munitions were used for the artillery explosions! The version I have is in German with no subtitles but it is a MUST SEE and sits side-by-side with the original, 1930 "All Quiet on the Western Front". Check it out if you can...

My favourite WW1 trench-warfare film is Stanley Kubrick's, "Paths of Glory". Truly a powerful masterpiece.

As I watched the "Peacock's Eye" episode I noticed the two service ribbons on Indy's uniform as he and Remy returned to England. I did some researches to get to know something about the related medals and some later I could buy them for my YIJ collection in France. And so here are "Henri Defense's" two war decorations, the Belgian "Croix de Guerre" (left) and the French "Médaille militaire" (right).



Mhhh...only two medals for two and a half years of hard and brave fight and service?
